| Sage Francis – Sea Lion Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
saul's verse: Oh God I think I’m dead I can’t see outside my head Brains and bloods and cryptic gang men Czars and warlords breaking bread Thoughts are thought What’s said is said I thought that ‘fore you said it I didn’t mean to think out loud My tongue slipped but who let it? Let it be, let me be, let me go, nah let me out My manhood nods and whispers when my father screams and shouts Dear dad I’m sad you’re dead A new man standing in the pulpit He bows before a wooden cross and forces praise the culprit I’m a tenor in the choir but I sing a different song Of how the wheres and whys of now all prove I don’t belong But I’m staying I've planted seeds and plan to watch them grow I've watered all my wishes dreams fulfilled more seeds to sow And I promise to learn to love the way I've learned to fear To unknot all the inhibitions tangled in my hair To let my ego mound in piles around the barber chair And make a graceful exit from my vexed troubled years I've decided I've been invited to my own resort Where knights can leave their armor neatly piled by the door And every woman, child, and man will gather by the shore and study how sea lions swim in cursive |

| The Long Winters – Hindsight Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
it's almost as though his lover is one who always wants the easy way out: "Are you still training for the big race by hoping the runners will die?". It sounds like things got hard and instead of facing the problem she's wanting to take the easy way out, she's wanting to run away from the problem instead of facing it. All the while the singer is seeing what she's doing and knows that if she opts to take that comfortable path then she'll, in the long run, regret what she did. at least that's how i'm seeing it and can relate to some of the lines given my current situation. |

| TV on the Radio – Playhouses Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
because i'm so incredibly annoyed with these wrong lyrics here are the ones directly from the booklet: Playhouses Swept away by the river now Confounded Sound it out now Vodka cran in your hand and whose little girl are you now Oh i'd ask for this dance but i know you'd play like you don't know how What your coy smile exposes A recent memory of when we shit our bed of roses And i know the moon above is shining down But not for our love so for who? so for who? Beneath the cigarettes and sugar shit of alcohol breath i can taste the ocean on your tounge Remember when we sat on the sidewalk of your old block Against the wall under the stars Talking about love's meaning Well, i wasn't dreaming I meant every word Just didn't know your demons Do you know mine, babe? Are we wasting time, babe? Playhouses Haunted by Broken spirits Just trying to get high Well we chose the course but The weather changed and the river froze And when it thawed it was running Backwards and dry now I suppose it's appropriate to cry now Over wasted time And naked lies Still get wasted sometime _______ Anyways, this is by far one of the most straight-forward songs on the album. Yet, in my mind one of the most powerful songs, and in my opinion, one my favorites off the album. Anyways hopefully these lyrics will bring some happiness to this page. The lyrics are amazing and now they can be enjoyed in their true form! |

| Nada Surf – Your Legs Grow Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
rockchalk, i think you got it dead on. i've been listening to this song non-stop since it came out on the "Future Soundtrack of America" comp and i'd always been puzzled by the chorus. A couple weeks ago my friend and i were having a heart to heart and she was going through a bad time and said, "well hopefully my legs will grow and get me out of this shit"...and all of a sudden it clicked. so to you, rockchalk, good job at figuring that out and beating me to the punch on posting the meaning. beautiful, beautful song nonetheless. and the version on "The Weight is a Gift" is purely incredible. |

| Headphones – I Never Wanted You Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
now im seeing why D. Bazan decided to do this side-project. I dont think Pedro could have pulled this song off half as good. This song is devistatingly beautiful. the song itself is pretty self-explanitory and simple but that doesn't mean anything since overall it is great. the first time i heard this song i got chills throughout my body. good job david! |

| Elliott Smith – Roman Candle Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
"It's a trick to make you think you spurred it on, created their violence." lilybart i couldn't agree more. the most powerful elliott smith song hands down. this song, along with the entire album, always brings me to tears. the anger that he conveys in the lyrics and music is contradicted by the way he sings the song. he makes it sound so cold...so alone. it just tears me apart inside. it hits too close to home for me not to be effected by it. |
|
| Elliott Smith – Georgia, Georgia Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
"well that's life i guess and he got it " thats an understatment. this is probably one of my favorite songs by elliott. it sort of has the same tone as 'roman candle' filled with anger but its sung in almost mono-tone. it just feels so empty...i think thats why this song is so powerful. |
|
| Elliott Smith – Stained Glass Eyes Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i highly agree! | |
| Elliott Smith – Everybody Cares, Everybody Understands Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
if you read "Elliott Smith and the Big Nothing" it basically gives the whole story to this song. Its about when elliott starting using drugs more intensly and his friends went behind his back and sent him to a rehab clinic in Arizona. After he got out of the clinic for playing along with the games and acting good he wrote this song because he was pissed and hurt that his friends would go behind his back and do that to him. Yeah, that basically sums it up. One of my favorite songs by elliott. |
|
| Elliott Smith – Either/Or (No More) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| i agree, this is probably one of my favorite unreleased songs but as much as i love it, i honestly couldn't see it fitting in with the either/or cd. I can understand why he didn't release it although i think it is quite sad that more people won't have the pleasure of hearing this song...but maybe thats good in my jealous mind-set sort of way. heh. | |
| Adem – Cut Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| this song is so devistatingly powerful. simply said. | |
| Moby – Porcelain Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| concurring with the rest of you, this is probably one of the most beautiful songs that Moby has ever done...probably one of the most beautiful songs ever done. Moby is a genius hands down. Every time i listen to this song i get chills throughout my entire body. | |

| this song is actually called "irreversable" it says on glassjaw.net. | |
| The Good Life – Needy Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| this song is incredable. basically sets the story line for what i'm going through right now. This band is amazing and as i've said before, this is truely the "album of the year" for 04. | |
| The Good Life – Album of the Year Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| this album is quite simply one of the best of 2004. This cd couldn't start off with a better song, probably one of my favorites from the cd. Its just brilliantly put together. | |
| Elliott Smith – I Didn't Understand Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
If i could probably name one song that hits every single emotional cord in my body it would be this one. The song sounds so cold and lacking soul, yet its so powerful. I remember seeing Elliott live about 3 years ago and he performed this song on piano and the entire crowd was just standing there holding back tears. basically like everyone before me said, its just about not understanding, and sometimes wanting to understand or not wanting to understand whats going on around you. Basically you put up this wall that keeps this gap inbetween you and the world and no matter what kind of happiness or feelings you come across you can't feel them, you simply can't understand, thus leaving the person emotionless and unable to connect wtih anyone. Always having this unbearable pessimism towards everything that makes those who you know you love drift away from you, no matter how much they show they love or care for you, you still continue to widen the gap making it impossible to love you back. just my thoughts. |
|
| Badly Drawn Boy – Fewer Words Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| i just saw Badly Drawn Boy a couple weeks ago and he said that he wrote this song about his friend and a fellow performer Elliott Smith. He was watching a video on him and it inspired him to write this song. Either way you take it, i think this song is one of the most beautiful songs written and is my favorite off of 1+1=1. | |
