what is bothering ntwjones? chill out please.
anyways, this is a fantastic opener for a really good album. all the hype I heard of this band got me a little nervous, but they are quite fresh, I like them a lot. this might be my favorite song, though Mardy Bum is great too.
I think that this song is about a pretentious band, like a lot of what other people said. |

by the way, the lyrics I'm refering to are:
"dawn breaks like a bull through the hall,
never should have called
but my head's to the wall and i'm lonely." |

Andrew Bird – Skin Is, My Lyrics

This song is just so good.
I think it is about who he loves and he wants to shout to the world how great it is.
"let it be printed on every t-shirt in this land
on the finest of cottons and the hippest of brands"
so cute. |

Fiona Apple – O' Sailor Lyrics

This song obviously has a lot to do with a painful relationship, but it is still ambiguous. Does anyone have ideas about the "by the boards" stuff? What does that allude to?
Btw, her new album is a lot less bitter piano-pounding, more mature reflection. I love both so much. Thank you Sony for finally freeing Fiona! |

Sufjan Stevens – The Seer's Tower Lyrics

First comment for a gorgeous song.
This is such a haunting song. I don't know what it means, but the imagery of the tower is beautiful. The references to Emmanuel, fire, and the end seem religious, but I don't know enough to say how.
"Oh my mother, she betrayed us, but my father loves and bathed us."---this is so powerful, does anyone know if it is an allusion to anything?
Sufjan is incredible, through and through. If you are looking at this without ever having heard his music, just do yourself a favor and get everything he's done... |

The Decemberists – The Infanta Lyrics
|
This is such a great song. I heard at a concert that the calling in the beginning is monkeys howling to each other. It is strange though because "Infanta" means the daughter of a Portuguese or Spanish king (dictionary.com), but this song has undeniable Indian themes (monkeys, elephants, sliks, sequins etc.). Also, I don't really understand who the infanta is in this song. Is it the virgin, or the "babe" from the river, or are they the same thing? Who is riding the elephant? There are so many people mentioned in this song, that I don't know. |

The Decemberists – We Both Go Down Together Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
My friend and I have had many discussions about this song, and we can't decide if it is about the pain (and bliss) of first love, or a son of nobility raping an uncivilized girl. I'm leaning towards the latter because of the "laid you down" line. The girl seems to be confused and passive, and also in pain. The man seems to think it is love, which is strange. Very undecided song. |

This song is hilarious. Chad Urmston is the greatest. Its definitely about a guy who has no money, hooking up with a waitress to pay for his food at a 24 hour diner. SOO good. |

Eminem – Just Lose It Lyrics

I think this song is hilarious and its not bad dance music. I know this is a let down for all you hardcore rap people, but honestly, he's just a funny guy. All the pop culture references are great; micheal jackson, peewee herman, not to mention he pretends to be gay, and with all the debate about that, this song is sure to stir controversy.
The first listen is annoying, but this song grows on you. It's not as bad as its made out to be. I promise. |

Jump, Little Children – Education Lyrics

Its got a pretty simple message: getting dumped sucks. It is trying to tell someone not to make the same mistake again. The opening line of this song is great, he says it in such a sultry, fuck-this type of way. |

This song is just another classic example of fiona perfectly capturing the feelings and emotions of a self-described 'independent woman'. Incredible.
The beat is ridiculously great too. |

Queen – Killer Queen Lyrics
|
Yeah, I don't think this is about gay people in the slightest. I think that the Killer Queen is a high class call-girl, like a western equivalent to a geisha (they even mention "geisha" in the song). This makes sense because of the references to high-class people like Khrushchev and Kennedy and invitations you can't decline. |
