The night before my husband, a United States Marine, left for a training operation he told me to listen to this song. He said it was exactly how he felt. I believe this song is an affirmation, not a goodbye. There is a seperation, but the story is full of hope. "Have heart, my dear". The singer was quoted by someone as saying it was about family... I think no romantic relationship outside of marriage can really appreciate how deep those family ties are, even more so if this is written to a child, not a spouse. For me though, its my husband telling me he's right here with me, even though I can't hear his voice. And we'll make up for the mess he must deal with every day, even if its just for a few nights before he leaves again. |

I love this song so much. Its clearly a supplication to God, but can also be interpretted as a beautiful love song. The guitar s so moving, for such a simple song, as well as the hand drums and harmony |

I think that so much can happen n a relationship outside of the two people involved, i.e. being forced apart by others, or being forced to make a choice between that relationship and something else. Instead of only saying "I love you", the song asks to prove one's love by acting, and choosing to show true love. "You couldn't make things new just by saying I love you" and "What would you do if my heart was torn in two?" It's a question about a choice, between him, and something else. |

This song isnt about living in a sad world, its much more specific than that. Look at the movie its from, for heavens sake! This song is about loosing the one you love. For the movie's sake I would say to death, but it can mean the loss of someone period, I think. Really look at the lyrics: "We walk the narrow path Beneath the smoking skies." The narrow path is life, and the smoking skies are the crap going on around us. "Sometimes, we can barely tell the difference Between darkness and light." Sometimes good and evil look the same; or sometimes the lines are blurred so that to do good one must do evil. "Do we have faith In what we believe? The truest test is when we cannot, When we cannot see." self explanitory "I hear pounding feet in the, in the streets below, and the, and the women crying and the, and the children know that there, that there's something wrong, and it's hard to belive that love will prevail." The world sucks. Evil goes on all around us, and its hard to imagine something as small as love can survive all that pain. "Oh it won't rain all the time. The sky won't fall forever. And though the night seems long, your tears won't fall forever." This is some hope for the world, and for the love she feels is lost to her. "Oh, when I'm lonely, I lie awake at night and I wish you were here. I miss you." self explanitory "Can you tell me is there something more to belive in? Or is this all there is?" Can I believe in more than the pain around me, in love, or is this failing life all there is? "Last night I had a dream. You came into my room, you took me into your arms Whispering and kissing me, and telling me to still belive." She dreamed he returned to reassure her that love is worth believing in, that he is worth believing in. "But then the emptiness of a burning sea against which we see our darkest of sadness." Even after his reassurance, she feels the pain of his loss, remembers that he is still lost to her. This is literally he thoughts at that second, interrupting the peace she feels with him there. "Until I felt safe and warm. I fell asleep in your arms." But he stayed until she was at peace, like he was never gone to begin with. "When I awoke I cried again for you were gone. Oh, can you hear me?" She cries not just because she sees it was a dream, but because its like loosing him again. Maybe she could take the first loss, but to have him for one night and lose him again? She cries out to him. Cant he feel how much she loves him, and misses him? Its a direct correlation to the movie The Crow. His loss, his pain, facing his memories... |

Matbe it's time someone actually looked at the song's meaning here. First: The shadows are trying to pull the speaker away from his love. Basicly saying, don't look at her, don't watch her sleep, dont talk about loving her, because in the end it doesnt matter anyways. The shaw also tells him to hide from the grief, to paint his face. I know there are some near quotes from the comic, but I don't think the "shadow" is the crow. The shadow is evil. Perhaps the saddest part of the song is how the shadow tells him it doesn't matter where he goes or what he does, they can always find him. He cant run away from the evil in himself and his life. |

In the first vers he says "I cant m,ake you hang around, I cant wash you off my skin" Maybe its a past lover or someone he's just met, but I think he wants more than they want to give. He cant bare to let them go, so he just goes with it, getting what he can |
