You know, I read that this song is about the practise of female gential mutlation, or female circumcision.
Which would explain why this song is described as a "betrayal" & Jupiter Masochist's Tori quote - "This song describes the irreversible damage and pain rendered by a woman betraying another woman; it's a tragedy, really. Not even their common experiences as females can save what is ruined." As it is the women of the village who perform this upon the infant girls.
And also: "Peel out the watchword just peel out the watchword" could refer to this, & especially "Rabbit where'd you put the keys girl" seems to apply, if you think about it. |

This song, the flipside to 'Christine', is also about Christine Sizemore's various personas, in particular the two most dominant; the vapid Eve White and the sensual Eve Black. I love these lyrics; the shift in tone as Eve White gradually is beaten back by the raging Eve Black...sublime. |

After making 'Peepshow', Siouxsie and Severin had a fight (i think it may have been over Severin's girlfriend), and they stopped speaking for a while. This was written and recorded a couple of years later, when they'd made up and were putting 'Superstition' together. |

This song was written by Crispin Grey about Katie Jane Garside when she left Daisy Chainsaw. He sang it with Vapid Dolly originally (or was it Dizzy Q Viper? I forget), then, when Queen Adreena was formed, Katie Jane sang the lyrics. Do try to hear the original version, it makes so much more sense. |

This song was based on the book Painted Bird by
Jerzy N. Kosinski which is about a young Polish boy fleeing the Nazis, but symbolically it's about how jealous people destroy beautiful things. The book itself I highly recommend reading; it's twisted and sexual, revolting the beautiful. |

I'm surprised no one has commented on this song yet, It is my favourite Banshees song. It is also one the contender for the title of sexiest song ever...just hearing Siouxsie's voice on this gives me chills.
I'm not completley sure what this is about. A friend of mine is convinced it's about murdering a lover. Another thinks it's about AIDS (which isn't entirelky outside the realms of possibility).
Either way, I adore this song. |
