i'm the opposite opinion, it seems most bands that go under the radar don't get to good of a lifespan in the music industry, so i hope that something from the album hits so we can here more from the guy. And drum machines suck, they were developed for a bunch of talentless people who cant even sing so decided to feed off peoples ignorance and make rap instead :) |

You know, i saw gnr three times on the use your illusion tour and they never played this song? Understandable, ive tried singing along to it and thought i was gonna end up in a coma for "14 years". I think kryptic is pretty right on about the meaning of the song, minues being about axl. If you remember, the original drummer Steven Addler was kicked from the group cause he was so lost in the drugs . . . "so who am i to tell you that ive seen any reason, why you should stay, maybe we'd be better off without you anyway, you got your mind in submission you got your life on the line but nobody pulled the trigger they just stepped aside" so this is my interpretation of at least that segment of the song "so um steven, check this out, you need to get out of this group before we all get as bad as you, i mean, you let that drug controll you so much, and its all your own doing, you had your warning, we tried to help, but you just shrugged us aside, and since there is nothing we can do for you obviously the best choice is to let you go" |

Dont get me wrong i think this song is great, but lets face its simplicity (as far as incubus lyrics are concerned i mean). This woman has spent her whole life planning to live her life, and in the midst of it all, forgot to actually live it. Like, you work your whole life twoards retirement, you plan you dream you build, but when you finally get there . . . your tired, and dont have enough energy to live anymore, you wasted your entire life planning, not living. Bahh, i know what im thinking but its not coming out right . . . |

i get a kick out of most incubus lyrics myself, i think the waiting around till 2012 ad is a reference to the end date on the maya callendar but i could be wrong, are you gonna wait around till "the end of the world", or get up and do something with your life. I like the traffic reference made by BeanBoy, I disagree though, i think its an analogy, probably had the song half written when he got stuck behind some old fart in his car, and found a new way to express the lyrics lol. |

Lots of good opinions, anybody think of the possibility that this songs meaning is obscure even to maynord? Perhaps the songs meaning is not that of a woman in itself, the first time i heard it . . . i thought of the song from Tool, Maynords other group :-), anyway, the song is aenema. Theres a line in that song i think directly connects with this song. The song is about cataclysmic end of the world. The line that stands out "one great big festering neon destraction, i have a suggestion to keep you all occupied, learn to swim . . . learn to swim . . . learn to swim . . . learn to swim". Basically, if you dont learn to swim your not gonna stand a chance when all the crap unfolds. When the "commet will fall from the sky, followed by meteor showers and tital waves, followed by faultlines that can not sit still, followed by millions of dumbfounded dipsh***s" I think Blue is almost a continuation of that song, and when he says, "best to keep things in the shallow end, cause i never quite learned how to swim", hes basically saying when the crap unfolds, hes in just as much trouble as we are. If you look at the song from that perspective you get a different meaning . . . not saying im right or wrong, thats whats great about decent lyrics, multiple interpretations. |
