| Panic! at the Disco – But It's Better If You Do Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Alright, here's my take on the song. I get the feel it's meant to have an over all sarcastic and satirical feel to it. There's a few reasons for this, namely the mention of a cabaret, burlesque, and the whole part of, "I'm afraid that I may have faked it..." (For those of you who don't know, a cabaret is 1. a restaurant providing food, drink, music, a dance floor, and often a floor show. 2. a café that serves food and drink and offers entertainment often of an improvisatory, satirical, and topical nature. and burlesque is 1. an artistic composition, esp. literary or dramatic, that, for the sake of laughter, vulgarizes lofty material or treats ordinary material with mock dignity. 2. any ludicrous parody or grotesque caricature.) With this attitude in mind, it seems he's talking to a female who's so sure of herself, and possibly has even hurt him in some way in the past. The opening lines about "forgetting you" make it easy to imagine he's attempting to tell her she doesn't matter to him anymore, if she ever did. It then switches over to her becoming symbolized as the stripper giving him a lap dance. "Isn't this exactly where you'd like me?...Praying for love in a lap dance and paying in my niavety?" These could possibly also be him referring to the past, where he was so easily won over by her promises of sex and his physical attraction, he was willing to waste time and effort on her, and "pay" in his naivety. With this all laid down, one can easily imagine him leading her on by telling her how much of a fool he is for her, how he'd do anything for merely a lap dance, and then extracting revenge by rubbing it in her face that, "well, I'm afraid that I...Well, I may have faked it. And I wouldn't be caught dead in this place." One can only imagine the smirk on his face as he turns and leaves having left that impression on her after playing along that she's oh so hard to resist. |

I really like this son, but ShesMyAlcatraz, I'd have to disagree. Distant Shores is the best, serious, FIF song. Heck, they even throw in some Every New Day at the end of it. You can't beat that. =P On to the song, what this song means to me. To me, Reese is lamenting (the whiner. Haha, just kidding. Reese, if you read this, I have the highest regards for you and your hair) his own humanity, how he is doomed to make mistakes and fall into the same sin over and over again. The years have made him bitter towards himself. (And then with thunderous praise and lofty adoration, a second passes by, yet nothing changes. Possibly the best line of the whole song.) By the end, he realizes what he must do to change-- Surrender himself fully to the love and grace of Christ, and realizes that through Christ, even for a sinner like himself, there is hope. This song, I must say, has had some of the most meaning for me, personally... |

| Five Iron Frenzy – The Cross Of St. Andrew Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I think it's actually about the Protestant Revolution, and them breaking from the Catholic Church. "You punish yourself for each failure, dogma beat out alcohol." Saying how the purists say since alcohol can be taken to excess, it shouldn't be used at all. "When all of your principles were fashioned, you thought that your new rules made you new. But maybe those X’s on your hands, are what’s killing you." Saying that when they broke from the Church, making their own set of rules, they thought they were making a whole new truth, when really they were taking away some of the truths of the Catholic Church while retaining others that they liked. "The Cross of Saint Andrew, never meant to take His place. The Cross of Saint Andrew, echoes of His grace. When Saint Andrew knew the measure, he knew the cost of sacrifice, he left all that he knew behind him, great things come at such great price. But all of this never brought the answers, obedience comes with controversy, what changed him changes me today, Christ has mercy." Speaking against those Christians that say Catholics are going to Hell for "worshipping" Saints. It is saying that the whole idea of having Saints is not to worship them, but instead to have those rolemodels of holyness that will turn our eyes towards Christ. To let us know that it is possible to live holy, to live as we should, through the help of Christ. That's my take on it... I'm not sure whether Five Iron Frenzy is Catholic or not, but there are alot of themes in their songs that have led me to suspect this. The great thing about music is that one song, and even one line of a song, can have multiple meanings. There is a depth to music that allows it to mean many different things, on many different levels. So, while it may mean something, there may also be a deeper level to it. Thanks for listening. Docendo dicimus. (Through teaching, we learn.) Pax Christi vobiscum, (Peace of Christ be with you all) ~ Steven Cimprich. |

Note: I usually have much more refined speech, but at the current time I am slightly drunk, and mostly sleep deprived. This leads to my slight incoherancy and misspellings. So if people want to bish to be about any grammatical errors or stuff... Well, I really don't care, but the above is your reason anyway. Thank you. |

Two things... Firstly, Tuwanga... "missish missy, this song means that he loves her for who she is and that he doesnt want a superficial hottie but he wants a girl with a good personality, if ur friend said that, he needs to check the lyrics be4 he says anything about this song!!!! i luv this song, punkrawker i luv the story u told if my b/f wrote me a poem i would flip with excitement, i bet that girl loved the poem and is goin out with u way 2 go!!!!! " What the ____? Are you slow or something? The ending to his story was HE DIDN'T END UP WITH THE GIRL. Secondly, does anyone else find it ironic that most of the girls on this page, saying how great the message of looking deeper than skindeep beauty, and complaining that most guys are shallow, are also the ones raving about how "hot" Jesse is? Hooray for double standards. Song is decent, Jesse is a pathetic boy band wannabe who decided to skip the whole being in a boy band and went straight to the solo act part of his career. That, and he's also an arrogant, conceited, hypocrit that doesn't practice what he preaches. He's a Usher/Justin Timberlake wanna-be. |

"When I walk out of here I know I’ll stand clear But the taste in my mouth still remains Still remains " It means that even though you may be in the clear, and no one will ever find out what grave..Sin, shall we say, you have commited, it will continue to haunt you. |

I feel this song is about someone who keeps making the wrong decisions, taking advantage of people, and he ends up becoming selfish, only for himself. "If you break me down Selfish desire is all you blame" Meaning that if he gets shot down by someone, his own selfish desire is the reason "Cause desperate times Call for desperate measures And I am not ashamed" sounds like he's trying to make himself feel better about being selfish by saying this to himself. I think Kinger2713 is on to something with the cane part, but I think that the cane and the fruit symbolize that he feels he did selfish and heinious things. The cane, because he took something that person NEEDED and he just wanted. The fruit is basically symbolizing the fact he did something he never should have and he feels as if he got kicked out of society. |
