The Doors – An American Prayer Lyrics 21 years ago
wow, this is an amazing passage from morrison, i am studying his work as a poet as part of my senior studies, American prayer seems very contextually relevant aswell in his reference to HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases, the 'guerrila warefare' referring to vietnamese conflict. it seems this serves as the first realisation of the concept of media saturation and existential angst that has become prominent in music today

A Perfect Circle – Imagine Lyrics 21 years ago
im sorry to intrude upon this argument, but i would definately agree that 'imagine' is an amazingly profound song, and perhaps to cover such a unique lyric would to perhaps disrespect the late john lennon, i can understand the indignance of some in this regard, however i feel as though the metalinguistics are more far reaching than the quality of the track. i feel as though the purpose of a cover is to present a previously released track in a different form in an effort to evoke different feeling and emotion, or even to suit different contextual values. through this i feel APC's cover is amazing, and to compare with Lennons version would create contextual conflict, since the atmosphere in both tracks are vastly different. largely the music and lyrics remain the same, however, the use of tone and meter are manipulated to create an ambience perhaps contrary to the original. the experimentation from this band is very intriguing, and i feel this exemplifies a very interesting literary theory within the musical / lyric form - that those with transcending literary merit are able to be manipulated in such a way to retain relevance over contextual boundaries.
