i have no deep meaning for this song, but i love it. the laughing is just so fitting in the middle. ps. syd was becoming so mentally instable that they couldnt keep him on board. during concerts, he would play a different tune, or not anything at all. yes, he was doing drugs, and that might have sped up his illness, but the band did not kick him out solely because of the drugs. waters was the leader of the "kich syd out!" club (not a real name lol) |

| Good song, and I had never heard about the picture that inspired it. I agree with Tikka when she said earlier (very early) that it was inspired by the picture, and touched up with LSD. But just think about how good the song is, not whether drugs or pictures or Alice in Wonderland had anything to do with it! Listen to it, those are people with great imaginations, on drugs or not! | |

| It's just calm, "marooned" meaning you're stuck in the middle of nowhere, can't get to anybody else. It goes with "The Division Bell" album theme of communication. | |
| Pink Floyd – Vegetable Man Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| It was about what Syd was wearing at the time, pinkubus_floyd. It's pretty far out and nothing really deep during the first part. But look at the last part: "I've been looking all over the place for a place for me/ But it ain't anywhere, it just ain't anywhere" makes me think that Syd was talking about more then just a house. He was pretty far gone by this time, with drugs and his mental illness. Is he saying that he's just so different from other people, he can't find a place to belong, where there are others like him? He feels like he doesn't fit in with anybody? He doesn't sing it with any more emotion then the other parts, but it makes me wonder if he didn't feel different. | |

It is a song with a lot of great feelings and atmosphere. It just sounds so creepy, yet it's so good! This was used in the movie "The Song Remains The Same" (the Zep video) for, ummm, I'm pretty sure John Paul Jones' part. Correct me if I'm wrong. It was his idea, his song, from what I have read, heard, etc., and I think that it turned out beautifully. He was always the quiet one, so this little victory is well deserved! *Plant and Page used this as the title in "Plant and Page: No Quarter- Unledded", and I always felt that was mean to Jones, since they never included him in that thing (news flash- he WAS part of Led Zeppelin! Don't block him out!!). |

| Led Zeppelin – The Rain Song Lyrics | 21 years ago |

They did this after a Beatle (sorry, can't remember which one!) told them they weren't going to go far without a ballad. And what the hell is Stairway to Heaven?!? It's good, but not great. Stairway kinda left no room for more ballads. Poor rain song! |

A really, truely wonderful song. And that thing said at the beginning- about Plant falling out of his wheelchair- is right. My God, if I got a chance to sing this song (if I could actually sing would help!) for the first time ever, I would probably fall out of my seat too! The drums are great here and sound exactly like horse hooves. Just a true masterpiece, everyone should listen to it, even if they don't like it (how could you not, though?). Solo guitar works very well. Led Zeppelin rules! |

lol, iknoweverything (wonderful name), i love that. i didnt go through all the posts, but i did see the ones were everybody was THE biggest led zep fan and they were THE youngest ever! who honestly cares? if you're younger, then you sound younger- less experienced. im not saying this about everyone, but dont bring your age into it! well, actually, since im 15 (guess i lose!), i do sound younger. i mean, i never got to see them play or anything, and that actually really bothers me. but i will sound inexperienced, because i am! so about the song: i love it, i also think its overplayed. not my fav led zep song (i wont say im their greatest fan EVER b/c obviously i cant), thats only because there are other, greater songs of theirs, and not b/c this one is bad. a great guitar solo. there is so much controversy (sp?) about this song, that i dont think about what it means. i just listen and enjoy! |

| John Lennon – Imagine Lyrics | 21 years ago |

theres no need for more posts i can see lol, but its the anniversary of his death so i want to do SOMETHING! i think he just wants to imagine the perfect world (although a "perfect world" is in itself a good topic for discussion: what is perfect?). i dont think his songs had many hidden messages, because he just wanted to get the word out there of peace and hope. where is john lennon when you need him? |

| Jefferson Airplane – White Rabbit Lyrics | 21 years ago |

i've never used drugs, so im not going to pretend i know what it feels like, but im also not going to preach against them! thats not the point of this site, and i just want people to know i dont really care one way or the other. i read just two days ago this thing about the connection between "White Rabbit", "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" by the Beatles, LSD, and Alice in Wonderland. It says that the book can be seen as alice tripping, and that "white rabbit" is about lsd, and the airplane never denied that they used the drug. the common theme between the 2 songs and alice in wonderland is "escape"; that is, they all create an alternate world to escape from reality. THIS IS ONLY SOMEBODY ELSE'S OPINION, and im not going to push it. i think that this song is about drugs, lsd and shrooms, and that there is no extremely deep meaning behind it. its a really great song, one of my personal favourites. grace slick has the perfect voice for it. heres the site that i was looking at that had all the comparisons: http://www.public.iastate.edu/~guccione/paperone.html its not all my opinion, if you look at it. just interesting stuff. and by the way, what does the "feed your head" at the end mean? i have not a clue... *sry for long post!* |

theasthmatictbn, dont worry, im not criticizing you! i like syds work better too. his work is just so out there and i love that. this song was written later on when syd was really going, so it may not make much sense, just like vegetable man (im pretty sure its that one) about his clothes. to me, it jsut sounds like a boyhood crush, but gets somehow more meaning at the end. |
