| Seether – Remedy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
It means so many things! The first line, throwing dollar bills, could mean he felt like he's prostituting himself "leave all your thrills here with me" i think the speak but dont defend does mean the breakup of a relationship, i think the frail the skin is dry and pale means the aftermath of the breakup and how he interprets the pain he's feeling "the pain will never fail" - it just keeps going. back to the remedy, i agree it could mean he's going back to drugs/alcohol - the famous remedies for pain. and the "tell yourself - you'll be the death of me" means significant other has hurt him deeply, and he's going back to the remedy... if you get me. "I dont need a friend, i need to mend so far away" ; he doesnt want to talk to anyone, but wants to get away from it all to get over it all.. "so come sit by the fire, and play a while, but you cant stay too long.. it aches in every bone, ill die alone, but not for pleasure" it could mean he wants to fill his sexual obsession with this person, and it aches in every bone could mean his lust for them "i'll die alone, but not for pleasure" maybe he doesn't want the lust to defeat him? "clip the wings that get you high and leave them where they lie" - perhaps he is reffering to himself as the wings, and his significant other using him to get herself high by deflating his ego and such, and basically telling her to leave him alone "leave them where they lie" I hope that makes some sense! |

I think it's also about doing the impossible "Bending spoons" |

| R.E.M. – All The Right Friends Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I agree... people who make friends with others just to get "street cred" - that's what this song is about. And how they've felt so alone even though they had their "friends" right there with them. | |
| R.E.M. – Electrolite Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Lmao, Alien abduction? I've actually just listened to this, on the "In Time" Album, and I love its. It's really melodic, it's got a fantastic tune, in the background especially when he sings "Electrolite you're outta sight" I don't think its about alien abduction, lol. ElectrolYte: A chemical compound that ionizes when dissolved or molten to produce an electrically conductive medium. Maybe Stipe has changed the letters round to befit the song? I'm not sure, I think it's a twisted love song, considering the bit where he sings "Your eyes are burning holes through me" And also the bit "You're plasticine" - maybe connotations of someone that is easily moulded/changed? Like the phrase "Putty in my hands". and, "I'm Martin Sheen I'm Steve McQueen I'm Jimmy Dean You are the star tonight. Your sun electric, outta sight. Your light eclipsed the moon tonight. Elecrolite. You're outta sight." Maybe they're on a night out for the first time? I'm not 100% sure, just certain lines in the song sound weirdly like a love song. But definitley not alien abductions lol. |

dedOne is totally right with their last line: "Yeah, this is how it's always going to be. Me, my friends, my family, my job." But eventually that wears out and you realize you need to move on just like everyone else has. "It's easier to leave than to be left behind." Uh, it was me who said that =) |

I'm not sure I understand your meaning. This is my favourite R.E.M song, and it sounds like it's about suicide. "Baby don't shiver now, why do you shiver now?" I'm not sure I'm completley to grips with the message of this song just yet. But like I said, it's so blatently about suicide. |

| R.E.M. – The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
by ZinbobDan on 04-28-2003 @ 11:18:11 AM i think it's pretty simple...this girl is giving him the cold soldier and he wants to call her...but whereever he is, the phone is eating his money...so, he's gotta get his friend to call him and put her on the phone...when he says he can always sleep standing up he's saying he can sleep in the phone booth and wait for the call... by StarmanDX on 10-05-2004 @ 03:00:48 PM I've always thought it was about a missile launch, the guy wanting to be called as a warning, a sidewinder being a type of missile... I agree with both of them... I love the song, though |

| It can be taken in so many ways - its completley different meanings for me, i mean its so blatently about suicide, but maybe not neccessarily about elderly people. I dunno, it reminds me of someone close 2 me (the shivers bit) for some reason, of romantic love. God knows why. | |
| R.E.M. – Everybody Hurts Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
R.E.M once said, "This song doesn't actually belong to us, it belongs to everybody who's ever got some solace from it" I thought that was beautiful. This song is something that still links me and one of my exes, we listened to it... well. I don't wanna go into that as it's a painful memory and long forgotten... But it was "our" song, and it reminded us of each other, and i know it helped me through a tough time in my life. It made me cry, and all my tears came out with the lyrics and made me feel better, the beautiful music and Michael's melodious voice. I know I'm rambling and I'm probably sounding crazed, but this song is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Thank you R.E.M for helping me move on with my life. |

| Same here! I'm so sick of my friends calling R.E.M a depressing band, just because they listen to absoloute trash, they don't understand what real music is. R.E.M is a fantastic band (and might I say, my favourite band in the world) and this is definitley one of the best! | |

I also think this song is about change. Undercurrent put it well- "leaving the past which you once thought was enjoyable..." The 3rd line in the song ("I looked ahead I'm sure I saw you there") leads me to believe that this person always thought they were going to remain in the same place, with the same people, doing the same thing. Then the lyrics talk about admitting to people what you think will happen, and had you admitted it, they would've told you differently which would have changed your point of view sooner. It's always nice to sit back and think, "Yeah, this is how it's always going to be. Me, my friends, my family, my job." But eventually that wears out and you realize you need to move on just like everyone else has. "It's easier to leave than to be left behind." I agree. But I also think it has a hidden meaning of love, and just because Michael is gay, doesn't mean he doesn't love! |

| I think its describing the life of Adolescents, and how our life is an Imitation of real life. | |
| R.E.M. – Bad Day Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I think it is just describing someone's bad day - maybe it could relate to the fact R.E.M are famous, they also have bad days, so they don't want the press to take a picture? Mwa. | |
| R.E.M. – Orange Crush Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Nothing - it has no meaning - Stipe has already stated that.. well... "I have sung this song about 200 times on stage and I still don't know what the **** it's about. Nyah. Ick. | |
