| Slayer – Angel Of Death Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Chinup, gotta love the Black Metal.I agree with you 100%.I think this song is great.Gets me so pumped up.I'm heaps into WWII history and nothing so vividly describes the horror of the camps quite like slayer do.But then i get the slayer label of being a nazi fuck just cause i'm into it on an historical level.Ignorant wankers.Anyway, i'm 16 and only being into metal for about 6 months but still nothing compares to slayer.Metal just wouldn't be the same without them. | |

| Foo Fighters – Down in the Park (Gary Numan cover) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song is great.really haunting.sends a chill up my spine.I think it's about a post-apocolyptic (is that even a word?) world where the machines have won, and humans are just numbers(a friend called five),they play kill by numbers (basically just kill people at random). This is a long shot but maybe it's even a metaphore for the holocaust. | |
| Foo Fighters – Everlong Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I love the acoustic version of this song.So haunting, sends chills up my spine. The video's wierd but cool. | |

| Cradle of Filth – Medusa and Hemlock Lyrics | 21 years ago |

I have interpreted this song as the decadence of society and civilisation into witchcraft and paganism. It could also be a metaphor of today’s modern world, interpret as you wish. However, if anybody has a completely different idea, post it here and let me know cause I’m always interested in how other people interpret a certain song. I have set my song meaning out in a paragraph-by-paragraph format so you can see what part of the song it refers to. Enjoy! Firstly, I’d like to point out that I had to make a few tiny corrections in the lyrics posted. They were basically right but a few words were wrong. These are the lyrics(hopefully correct) from the Nymphetamine album with my interpretation of each verse; Dim the lights, wrong the rites Toss the puerile cross away We are gashing from a venomous womb Dimming the lights is making the world dark and evil, wronging the rites (religious or solemn observance or act) is going against all other religions. Puerile means immature. The “venomous womb” is the poisonous place of origination. Burning bright, dead of night Pyres stain a milky way Lust is splashing the dark face of the moon The funeral pyres of the dead are so many that the smoke stains the night sky. The lust for decadence is there, but hidden in the dark where it originated. In the Samhain mist We lay in welcome by the western gate With the five fold kiss For every soul returning From the fecund abyss Where nature’s travesties congregate With a stone cold wish To see the wickermen burning The Samhain mist has something to do with paganism and is the feast at the start and the end of the sacred year. I’m not sure of the significance of the western gate. The five fold kiss (feet, knees, womb, breasts, lips) is something to do with Wicca, the modern day religion of witchcraft. Every soul returning from the fecund (fertile) abyss is greeted with the five fold kiss of Wicca. Travesties mean imitations. A stone cold (long awaited) wish to see the wicker men burning is like the long want to be able to practice witchcraft. The wind, she whispers Through the graveyards of our hearts… Wreathed in dreams As she weaves Her witchcraft We breathe, enamoured Of the conquering dark Wreathed=surrounded or hidden by. Enamoured means inspired by love or liking, so this verse is basically about converting people over to the dark side. Medusa and Hemlock I’m still not sure of the significance of the words Medusa and Hemlock but I think, since Medusa was a gorgon of Greek mythology and Hemlock is a type of poison taken from a fern like plant I think this sentence is referring to the paganistic use of mythology and poison potions. Harvest past, fires cast Ashen shades this Hallowe’en We are Set now to Beherit the earth Harvest past, fires cast means the passing of the years. Beherit means the opposite to inherit so it kinda ties in with the next verse about widdershins. Widdershins, death begins To fashion fete to gallow scenes… Sprits rising to discredit rebirth Widdershins is the reversal of magic, therefore turning good to bad. Fete, when used in the right context can mean the day of a saint. There is no need for rebirth because the spirits are rising up. In the Samhain mist We lay in welcome by the western gate With the five fold kiss For every soul returning From the fecund abyss Where nature’s travesties congregate With a stone cold wish To see the wickermen burning Same as above. The wind, she flitters Through the forest of our hearts… Wreathed in leaves As she weaves Her witchcraft We breathe, enamoured Of the conquering dark Basically the same as above. I will trace the knot of serpents in your hair Plot your face, then ascending marble stares You shall pluck me, masked, from roses-in-despair Tasting my blood That runs from worming tongue like prayer This verse is the description of Medusa. Medusa had snakes for hair. Marble stares is a great pun because legend has it that Medusa could turn people to stone by just looking at them and marble is a stone and stairs is written as stares. Under pagan veneer snakes a fear That makes the stars Grieve, just to be Uncharted on this Eve When part of me chars a path Through your heavenly constellations Stars are seen in Astrology as being able to tell the future so if they go back to being uncharted, the earth goes back to having no future. Medusa and Hemlock Same as above. Back to black, hinges crack Rituals call obscenities Sheets of demons rush insanity skies Back to evil, doors open. The new rituals go against everything old and good. Tread the salt, the dead exult Preachers beg our clemency Seeking warmth in inhumanity’s eyes The dead exult (rejoice) because they now walk the earth. Preachers beg our clemency (mercy) because they represent Christianity and are now outnumbered by their foe. They seek warmth(acceptance) in inhumanity’s eyes. Inhumanity is the evil darkness. We who kept the candle by the vault We who kept the handle on the cult We who kept evil locked away have now released it upon the world! |

| Cradle of Filth – Nemesis Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| That's the vibe that i got too. The hatred for the western world and all that seems like terrorism. No compromise,i drown in a loss worth fighting for. Yeah, i'd say it's modern day terrorism.Although Carpathian-Bred15's interpretation would explain alot. | |
| Cradle of Filth – Medusa and Hemlock Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I'm working on a complete word for word explanation.I think it's about the decadence of society and civilisation into witchcraft and paganism. Have some patience and i'll have it posted in the next few days. Medusa was a gorgon of greek myhtology who had snakes for hair and could turn people to stone by staring at them. Hemlock is a type of poison. More of an explanation in the next week. Love this song. Not a fan of Cradle Of Filth's old work, but on Nymphetamine they really produced something that i like. | |
| HIM – And Love Said No Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Yeah. I know what you mean. It's the type of band that could be really popular if they played it more. I only know one other person who listens to HIM and that's the guy who got me into them. | |

| Children of Bodom – Warheart Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Basically it's about choosing the dark, evil path in life and who wouldn't?There is nothing left in his heart except for war and hatred. At least that's what i got from the lyrics. | |
| Children of Bodom – Children of Decadence Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I read that it's about gangwars and is also making a statement about the bands attitude. | |
| Children of Bodom – Black Widow Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I absolutely love this song. I reckon it has the best intros of all the COBHC songs. Still can't quite work out what Alexi was getting at when he wrote this song but i love it. If anyone knows could you help me out? | |

| Children of Bodom – Touch Like Angel Of Death Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song isn't my fave COBHC song but it's pretty fucking good. Alexi Laiho said it's about the most fucked up situation a man can get into. When you love and hate someone at the same time, should you fuck her, or shoot her?Oh, by the way, i always recognised the intro music on the Tokyo Warhearts cd but could never pinpoint what from. Thanks for that tip. | |

| HIM – And Love Said No Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
This song always reminds of a really special girl. Like the song says "love said no" and it didn't work out. Every time i play this song i get sad cause it reminds me of her. But at the same time i absolutely love it for the lyrics. Continuing the conversation on radio....i live in australia and here most people don't even know who HIM are. In a way i'm kinda glad that all this sort of music is in this whole subculture of it's own cause i hate to see my fave bands selling out and being hijacked by pop-punk wannabes. |

| Iron Maiden – The Trooper Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This was the song that got me into Iron Maiden. And yes cavalry was used up to and including world war two. The Germans had the 8th SS cavalry division. The Russians had Cossacks. I think this song is about the earlier wars in history due to the reference to muskets and bugles. Most probably the charge of the light brigade as UpTheIrons said. At least we can all agree that it's a kick ass song. | |
| Sum 41 – Thanks For Nothing Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This is the only song i can ever play on a guitar(especially after a few drinks) and i absolutely love it. Kick ass lyrics. | |

| Sum 41 – Over My Head (Better Off Dead) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| My best birthday was when i turned 15 nd my sisters bought me a ticket to see Sum 41. Best concert ever. This song was the one that really stuck with me and i listened to it almost every day until i got Chuck, then i fell in love with that album. | |
| Children of Bodom – Lake Bodom Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I think this song is sort of an insight into the mentality of the killer. "Raising my sword to the lord! calling your death in a black obsession" this gives you an idea of what the murderer was thinking. His lord is the devil and his sword is the knife used in the murders. Please correct me if i'm wrong but that's the way i see it. This song comes from the album Something Wild and just about the whole album is based on the bodom murders. |
|
| Children of Bodom – Red Light In My Eyes - Part One Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Since just about all of the Something Wild album is based around the bodom murders i would say that the Red Light In My Eyes motif comes from something the survivor of the murders said while under hypnosis. Nils Gustafsson was the only survivor of the four teenagers who were murdered while camping on the shores of lake bodom. Under hypnosis during the investigation, he said that the killer's eyes glowed red, hence the title. Even today, Nils Gustafsson is still the main suspect despite having been stabbed several times himself. | |
| Children of Bodom – Needled 24/7 Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| My fave song from COBHC. I think it's about the duality of anticonformancy. The line "a foot away from you is like a bit closer to heaven, but then again it's like been needled 24/7" i think is saying that getting away from society's confines is good but then it's just not worth the trouble. Alexi rocks! | |
