The penultimate verse ends, "But search her heart for evidence, Search her soul for proof". Beautiful song. Sounds like two girls arguing over a guy/girl, but I suspect it's something a bit more transcendental... |

I'm not going to try and explain what I think this song's really about, because I'm not sure, but here's what it means to me. I've heard it a thousand times, but it's just taken on a new meaning since my girlfriend dumped me! "Do you feel like a chainstore? Practically floored?" Completely. Unable to do anything. "One of many zeros Kicked around bored Your ears are full but your empty Holding out your heart To people who never really Care how you are" I felt special when I had her. Now I just feel like a nobody again. "Your ears are full of the language There's wisdom there you're sure 'Til the words start slurring And you can't find the door" I think we've all been there... "Sociability It's hard enough for me Take me away form this big bad world And agree to marry me So we can start all over again" I know I'd take her back in a heartbeat, I'd give anything to be back in that place where I felt comfortable and secure with her. I wouldn't mind starting from the beginning, because it'd be worth it. It hasn't been too long, yet. I know I'll get over her eventually and maybe then Coffee & TV will just be some guy disillusioned with the rat race and modern living, again. But just thought I'd share. |

Haha, they're absolute bloody geniuses. "Stalking someone for God's sake" "Stalking Someone. For the sake of God". Who'd be a better person to follow for the sake of God than Mary? I honestly believe that's what it's about. Not that I have any biases; I'm a lapsed muslim, so hardly likely to be getting all evangelical... |

| The whole song appears to be about Stu's breakup with Isobel, as was mentioned before. | |

I thought it was obvious when I first heard it.. but perhaps I'm wrong. It's about the Virgin Mary. "Honey lovin you is the greatest thing I get to be myself and I get to sing" Singing is a reference to singing in a choir, which Stuart does at his local church when he's not doing B&S. "I get to play at being irresponsible I come home late at night and I love your soul I never forget you in my prayers I never have a bad thing to report " 'Prayers' is fairly obvious, but "never forget you in my prayers" might be a reference to always remembering to pray to the Virgin, or to saying 'hail mary's. "You're my picture on the wall You're my vision in the hall " Makes sense that he would have a picture of the Virgin on his wall, perhaps, and he wouldn't have been the first person to have had visions of Mary. "I'm a danger to myself I've been starting fights At the party at the club on a Saturday night But I don't get disapproving from my girl She gets the all highlights wrapped in pearls.. " He only ever mentions the 'highlights' of what he does in his prayers to Mary. "I had a conversation with you at night It's a little one sided but that's allright " Prayers are usually one-sided! But often they're conversations. "You sit on the bed in the dark changing places With the ghost that was there before you came You've come to save my life again " Saving = salvation. Ghost = Holy ghost of the Trinity, who (if you believe in that kind of thing) was around a long time before Mary. "I'd pay to visit you on rainy Sundays " Church on Sunday? The whole "funny little frog" thing might be to do with the Virgin influencing everything he says. |
