The Offspring – You're Gonna Go Far, Kid Lyrics 17 years ago
good song. they pretty much lifted the entire verse structure from Panic at the Disco's "Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off" though. but hey, I still like it.

Panic! at the Disco – Nine In The Afternoon Lyrics 18 years ago
Seriously, I know most of ya'll might be too young, but daaaamn that's the most ELO-sounding song since.. ELO. I love it.

I was worried that I wouldn't like their new stuff but I don't care if half of it is as good as this. :)

Modest Mouse – Little Motel Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is about the regrets one has for another whom they love very much who has died. I like the allusion to the 'little motel' being the coffin, being alone after death. The other verses I think are about the regrets they have for how they treated the other in life. Insults, fights, mishaps.. they made such a big deal out of them, and now what? It's what we've all been waiting for, death. And there's no way to take it back but say 'I'm very sorry.' They both made a wish that when they die, that someone would miss them.. and the singer is doing just that. Perhaps the line about 'kiss your lips' is alluding to how you often give a loved one one last kiss at a wake before the coffin is closed.

Crash Romeo – serious Lyrics 19 years ago
Congrats Crash Romeo: you can completely rip off Motion City Soundtrack! Is it legal to do this? I surely don't know! I really laugh at the last iteration of the chorus where they reach a little higher.. good God.

Yet, for some reason, I still vaguely enjoy it. Augh, guilty pleasure. I guess I'm just at the point where I'm so desperate for originality in the pop-punk genre that I'll let anyone pass who puts a synth track in their songs. Kudos for trying originality, even if it's someone else's originality.

O.A.R. – Love and Memories Lyrics 20 years ago
I read that this song was inspired by O.A.R.'s love for the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," where Jim Carrey's character is having his memory of his ex-girlfriend Kate Winslet physically erased. Halfway through the process wants to stop it as he falls in love with her again, but it's irreversible. Great movie, good song.

Paranoid Social Club – Two Girls Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this song is about a guy who recently got dumped by a girlfriend he still loves who played all these different roles for him. She could be wild and crazy and still be a stable girl when she needed to. Now that he's single again, he figures he'll need two different girls since he thinks no one could be as versatile as she was. And, if he's back on the market, why not "have some fun" and actually try to get two girls?

Ben Folds – Landed Lyrics 21 years ago
Here's the literal interpretation of the song:
"It's about a close friend of mine who's recovering from being under the influence of a crazy girlfriend," says Folds. "I had this mental image of him flying back to reality, landing at the airport and needing a ride back to the life he left behind."

To me, this is an awesome song, and it really gives hope that even under the influence of some crazy-ass ho you still have hope for lucidity. Hope I never get myself in that situation. Can't wait for the new album myself either. :)

At the concert I went to in Rochester, Steven dedicated this song to Elliott Smith. It was about 2 weeks after Elliott had killed himself.

Barenaked Ladies – The Old Apartment Lyrics 21 years ago
sephyfan99976 -

"the Danforth" is a neighborhood and street (and very minor river) in Toronto, Canada. Supposedly it's an upscale area, or at least more upscale than "the old apartment."

Here is the dictionary entry for tableaux; I'm not sure which meaning he's using in this song.

The Ataris – The Boys of Summer (Don Henley cover) Lyrics 21 years ago
Just thought I'd add a clarification even though the song is pretty old. They replaced "Deadhead" with Black Flag because, as Kris put it, "the Grateful Dead were fucking horrible and most people, except for a bunch of snooty hippies, would agree with me that the Grateful Dead's music was just watered down fucking country music and fucking Black Flag were a much more credible band."
