Wow I was listening to this song today and all of a sudden it just clicked. . . to me the song means being addicted to drugs (E=ecstacy) and maybe prostitution. Basically the woman is being lured into that world with drugs by a man with charm and an ease about him, so it siphons her. "Need a lip gloss boost in your America". . . basically that she needs to keep up with looking in her world of prostitution, which is basically the america that she lives in. Then after doing all of these things, she realizes that she's slowly wasting away and she can't get out of it, so she "does one more" ecstacy to take her mind off of it. Screaming in cathedrals. . . begging for help wherever she can get it, even at the church, a holy place. And she's basically sacrificing herself and all of her dreams because she's addicted. Sorry if this post didn't make much sense, but it just struck me and I HAD to post it. |

I think this song is great, and the lyrics are simple, but they have a pretty powerful message. She probably experienced some past pain, and all she wants is to feel light and weightless, so that she wont have to hurt anymore. |

The first time that I heard this song I cried so hard... it's so beautiful, and the meaning is clear and true. It can be about so many things, but the way I interpreted it was about being a Christian and how hard it can be. Christians truly do walk a lonely road, and alot of times you can crack under the pressure of this world. But if you just hold on, "you may rise to find the sun," which to me means Jesus. I think that Tolkien would have loved this song, with him being a Christian and all. |

This song is incredible... I'm getting the feeling that it's about how she gave up her virginity to "those Christian schoolboys" just so she could feel love, no matter how temporary... and then he made the comment to her "you're really an ugly girl but i like the way you play" and she knew he was talking about how she gave it up to him... and she was disgusted with herself, so she died inside, but thanked him so that it seemed like everything okay when really her world was falling apart. Chasing after a boy for love turned her into something to be used.... her hurt in this song is so clear, and the piano is absolutely brilliant. One of my favorites. |
