yeah, utilitarianism and practicality aside. the only moral solution is not to let politicians control a womans body. regardless of the "word of god," its not the governments place. believe it or not most of the people on this planet dont read the bible. why should your standards apply to them? oh, and dirty language doesnt negate a thought. as of july 2004 texas took 1st place in teenage pregnancies (christian science monitor, 7/04) and the csm counterintuitively does not associate with a specific religion. oh, and god doesnt exist. |

| Judith Keenan was the name of Maynards mother. People who check toolband.com know that she died of cancer last year. Mer de Noms was released after her diagnoses, which is clearly what the song is about. She was religious (unlike maynard) hence the lines "You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never ever choose to be." so to answer this boards previous question: maynard does not dig jesus. He writes the song because he doesnt understand how his mom can remain faithful even when god has given her a fatal illness. | |

| ive seen apc a handfull of times. each time maynard announces something like "here's a little diddy about anal sex." It does sound alot more like its about spanking it though, perhaps hes thinking about anal while playing pocket pool. either way, hes never beat off on stage. but you never know. it would be a very maynard thing to beat off on stage, but to do so without anybody knowing. hes not a very open performer, and although he does sing a song entitled "maynards dick" (secret track on salival), i doubt he would expose himself publicly. | |

oh man, its ironic that you were on drugs while listening to this song, cuz its about abstaining from drugs. "no conviction in your numb mind, a hidden cell of chemicals" means your brain is chock full of dope. "i kind of like the blank way i fill up my life, i dont care for nothing that gets me too high" is pretty obviously saying that he doesnt want to do drugs. this song was probably written by ken out of frustration over gregs relationship with his spoon and needle. the only line that sortof goes contrary to the whole song is "i want some dampened spirits and blackened bitter spoons." now he wants alcohol and heroin? |

you guys are not looking deep enough, and jackrules is most definitly wrong. If there is a point illustrated by the album "fantastic planet" it is displaying the similarities between a romantic relationship and drug addiction. the songs stuck on you and nurse (also being the most famous on the album, stuck on you being a big failure single and apc covering nurse) point this out the most clearly. The verses of the song obviously refer to haulicinations and delusions via the abuse of drugs. the chorus is about the nurse whom he loves. this nurse isnt a person, it is heroin incarnate. greg was an addict and ken at least dabbled. they feel like they truly are in love with heroin, to everyone else, all the other guys, its just a habit, a meaningless addiction, a nurse. apc didnt write 13th step around this song. maynard and ken go way back. tool toures with failure, apc tours with year of the rabbit, maynard sang on silly love songs for the replicants. theyre buddies. the song certainly does fit though. |

Ive heard theories however that some of the lyrics actually refer to masturbation. hes counting the pores accross his skin. the last line is that his prides undone (pop!) and there are people out there who hump their pillow to masturbate. | Im pretty sure the nail thing is a reference to heroin addiction, but i dont think anyone in failure got high of their toenails. Its definitly heroin, "my burnt spoon is dry beneath my bed" says it all. failures songs were pretty much written by ken and greg, and the popular theory on why the band broke up was gregs debilitating heroin addiction. so it fits. | |
