| Sia – Breathe Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song reminds me of the poem "Variations on the Word Sleep" by Margaret Atwood, in particular the stanza: "I would like to be the air that inhabits you for a moment only. I would like to be that unnoticed & that necessary." "Breathe Me" seems to be about feeling empty and useless and wanting be used and loved by another person. |

| PJ Harvey – Pocket Knife Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The more I listen to the song the more I feel as though the main character is begging her mother not to make her get married, and telling us that if she has to wed, she will kill herself. | |
| The Moldy Peaches – Rainbows Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Wow... I transcribed these lyrics on a site and somehow my transcription ended up here! Awesome. Anyway, the word in the second stanza that I couldn't figure out before is "djembe." In case anyone wanted to know. |

| The Presidents of the United States of America – Kitty Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I liked the nautical theme. | |
| The Velvet Underground – There She Goes Again Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I don't know if you're right... unless you read that in a bio or something. I see the song as the story of an abusive boyfriend or husband whose girldfriend/wife is gaining too much freedom. It is told from the perspective of the voices in his head who say, "She'll never ask you 'please' again," so "You better hit her." | |
| Elliott Smith – Strung Out Again Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The correct lyrics, I believe, are "I saw a rich fuck given charity," not "giving charity." | |
| The Velvet Underground – All Tomorrow's Parties Lyrics | 20 years ago |

You are the only one who can't stand it. I love Nico's voice. Am I the only one who thought that the lyrics were "What costumes shall the vulgar wear to all tomorrow's parties"? |

| PJ Harvey – Pocket Knife Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The line "White material will stain" then "My pocket knife's gotta shiny blade" makes me think that she is anticipating using the pocket knife. I assumed that she is about to kill her future husband in order to get away, because as the song says, she just wants to make her own fuck-ups. | |
| Britney Spears – Baby One More Time Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
This song is about intense masochism directed toward infants, i.e.: "Hit me, baby." The narrator is inflicted with a compulsive desire to be chastised (indeed "hit") by a human child "one more time", thus quenching her lust and "giving her a sign". This affliction is most likely caused by a combination of pedophobia (the fear of children), and low self image/a desire to be humilated and/or punished. |
