I don't know the actual story behind the song, but there's so much to be interpreted. To me this song speaks of an empty existence, fueled by drugs and suchlike. When he says "You hear it's degrading" I don't think this means humiliation degrading, more degrading like milk degrading, makes for a lower quality product. Because this girl is thought of (and thinks of herself) as a product, not a human with a soul. This is my favorite Donovan song ever. |

This song is sort of describing a desperate, hopeless love that some one can't let go. It's tormenting them beyond their control. They feel this painful absolute devotion to whatever it is they love. And I agree with some other people, the insects and the needles and everything are all metaphors for the addiction of cutting. Also, art is subject to interpretation. Parts of this song seem too erotic to be about a drug addiction (the verse with all the 'oh I want to be inside of you's), but others seem to be largly about losing yourself to addiction. Maybe both? Either way, it's forking awsome. |

Things I don't like about this song? 1. The singer sucks. Oww, my ears. Shut up. 2. The lyrics suck. I could've written that. If you're a popular band, you should at least write something half decent. I like bands that can throw me back with their lyrics. And these lyrics just...suck. 3. The singer is insulting me. So this dude doesn't know me, he probably doesn't even know I exist, and yet he feels he has the right to bitch to me about all the horrible things I've done to him, and to go on and on about how hardcore he is, and what I stupid shallow whore everyone else is, blah blah blah. I don't care about your problems. Shove them up your whiny little ass, where they can mingle with their own kind: the BULLSHIT. And you want to know why I take time to bash a band I hate? Because I can. And it's hella fun. |
