I'm looking at this a little differently, I suppose. I don't think it's about just any love. I think this is a song directed towards his children. He says "run like a race" in order to obtain a "family" when "you feel like you're alone." There's also a parallel between "love is a crying baby mama warned you not to shake" and then later on "love is a dream you enter when I shake and shake and shake you" as if the "you" is the "baby" that he, earlier, was warned not to shake and now finds he is shaking. And then theres the reference to rendering a scene "when you catch me wide awake" which could possibly refer to Sam's filmmaking. I also took the lion's mane as referring to his big beard. Perhaps describing his own facial hair in a childlike light. So all his love for his children is in his mane. |

i found some sexual connotation in the chorus... a curbside prophet with his HAND in his POCKET waiting for his "ROCKET" to COME. yeah. i didn't think about it until he kept talking about truckers. |

i personally do not understand the song at all...and one of the reason why i loved it so much when i first heard it was BECAUSE it was so hard for me to understand and yet it was so capturing... i like the end...when he talks about the median separating their house from the middle of the street. if you read it as the median being the median of a road...which keeps traffic from crossing over to the middle of a street...well then their house is a car. |
