Curious many people over here talk about sarcasm...what a world we live in... (I had to admit it also sounds sarcastic to me, specially when you see at the video that is an old and tired man who moves the "happy" backgrounds by ciclying.). Anyway, in that case it is funny that a teenagers' magazine had the lyrics of this one when REM became really popular at my country with Out of time. (Of course, this wasn't because of them being sarcastic as well...) I had to say this is not one of my favourites. Must admit this is due to being connected to one particular bad and strange day... |

This seems to be about faking in relationships("invented", "invention" "real thing"...), being make up a symbol. As for Michael Stipe being gay, I´ll use here my brother´s simile of the hetero clerk. Does anyone talk about hetero clerks? For me, it sounds as absurd as talking about gay musicians. |

When he says "From square one start", that reminds me of Through the looking glass, from Lewis Carroll. And in the video they are in a kind of garden... Maybe it has nothing to do, but it would be quite funny actually, being the case that someone asked Robert to sign Alice in Wonderland at one of latest The Cure concerts ( a pity I didn´t bring the other book as well... This show us the importance of planning. On the other hand, planning might have resulted in something more normal used to get the autogarph...) |
