SCRATCH MY ASS AND DANCE INTO THE WALL! lololol. but seriously. Well said to skivvies and drewlerman. I feel like this song is not only about the end of a relationship but also the persona feeling as if he/she (it really isn't gender specific) tried everything they possibly could to no end; he is probably still dealing with the aftermath of this relationship because he can never really understand why things went wrong. He is lamenting the past ("I wanted you, you wanted more") and feeling spiteful about how much he sacrificed for this pointless relationship. The persona's life now is the sum of all the accidents he has etched permanently into his memory (scratched into the wall), and his silent misery has become the defining element of his life, in effect the only thing he really feels in control of anymore, the one thing that belongs to him: "I built this life and now it's mine". I suppose this could be likened to a self-mutilator, who feels like they have lost control of the rest of their life; so they hurt themselves to feel in control of something. And this depression has become such a permanent thing that he's keeping a room at the hospital. the end. |

wrinkledPhole, we're all pretty bitter about the way the offspring legacy appears to have ended, but don't let it ruin the music for you. this is an awesome song, awesome sentiment behind it - some of the greatest material from one of the greatest bands ever. although since changing labels they seem to have gone downhill, i laugh at all of you who call the offspring trendy assholes. i mean, i love those guys; but how old are they? trendy? i think not. xx lisa |

man i love this song. and YES you silly, this album IS the best... and i just love it all the more knowing that it's entirely dave's creation - that guy is genius. and please dont mention holden caulfield. that guy is so effing annoying. i never want to associate this awesome song with that pansy. the fooies have got to be one of my favourite bands... and its nothing to do with the association with nirvana - coz i hate when people only like them coz of that. lol. theyre just awesome... and this song is proof =D xx lisa |

omg u guys. have a proper listen to the song. MyPrivilege is on the right track. The relationship they have is indeed a very fast-paced and sexual one, and even though the guy knows that being with her is seriously screwed up ("So what if we're making a scene now / You know she don't give a shit / When she's pawin' and grabbin' on me now / You know I don't mind a bit" - she gets on to him in public and stuff like that) it doesn't matter to him cos the sex is good and fast. as self-pitying as it may sound this is my favourite song to cry to... im a 14 yr old aus girl and its reminds me of my own parents' divorce... being 7 and having to explain to my little sister why daddy was crying. the scene in the video clip where he was on the bathroom floor crying really hit home for me... i think many of us can relate to jus breaking down like that... i also really liked guns so velvet revolver is one of my fave bands =) slash is so cool! - the sleepy frog loves you |
