You could also take it this way: What if he's singing about some derranged lunatic that thinks he's a fish out of water. Cuz no chicks will give him any :) (Sorry, Im preventing myself from diving deep by making sick jokes)He keeps feeling as if the ocean is "calling" to him. It makes his heartache. (I am so cheezy) So he decides to go back to his home and leave this hellhole they call earth. Let's say an urge to go swimming took over him and he could stand it no longer (crazy bastard) So (finally) he ceased to resist... I wonder who he "gave" his goodbyes to. Oh, that's right. He's a crazy lonely bastard who thinks he's a fish, he has not met the girl who thinks she's a dolphin yet, so...he has no friends! He probably waved (parade wave, of course) goodbye to the air, earth, rocks (crazy bastard) and anyone who would happen to see him going home that day. |

I think this is a very uplifting song actually. First, we can't assume he drove his car into the ocean on purpose... In fact, "ceased to resist, giving my goodbye" I think just intends the individual to get a feeling of "Peace". I mean, talk about a beautiful way to go, eh? (sorry) But really, with the music's strong influence I get a feeling of peace and relaxation like he was singing about going on a carribean cruise. "you'll think I'm dead, but I sail away..." The song seems now to be in the present. A brilliant perspective and would be very comforting to one mourning death of a loved one. Dead or sailing away? How would you prefer to envision a soul just passed? Wave of mutilation may be Black's take on what we call "angels or guardians" Perhaps each wave that transports the now freed spirit, is catagorized by name. Maybe there is a Wave of Suffocation too? Oh, oh, how about The Wave of Decapitation? I suppose they have to be concerned with the crossing over and make it as smooth as possible as not to leave any "ghosts" behind. If they get on the wave named after the way of death, it may help in how the soul and body finally become detatched? I wonder if Frank's idea of heaven is the ocean? Or maybe he has a fetish for mermaids. |

Again, I think here Black leaves the appropriate spaces for the individual to fill in as you could take many veiws on this songs meaning, depending on what still infuriates you about male/female relationships. The girl, I think, is not YET rich, but, he assumes she wants to be. Baggage. I've heard many males claim all women want is money. Also, a scorched heart of will be over cautious and assuming to avoid that burn again. You think, okay, what's wrong with her/him? Then I think Black shows the "animalistic" or perhaps unevolved aspects of the whole thing anyway. The girl is cryin' (emotional overload) and the male fills his ego up with taking on the role of "the big man", this satisfaction is naturally human (our animal part) so if a woman has fills this same aspect of herself it is a turn-off. (and her head has no room) we hear alot of how the unevolved (lack of better words) man is intimidated by a "girl" with brains, an opinion or things "testosterony" This "girl" will not fill his head. (Personally, I feel these types have much room to spare, perhaps this is why it used to be that males cheating was more acceptable as it was more common. When the "girls" got to actually go out into the world, they filled thier heads too. But they usually are not seen with the unevolved types. When women filled thier heads they started the ol' wanderlust too! Black has an obsession with "space" and those he feels he knows that occupy these outer areas. I hate the word "alien" but, it's much easier to use. His veiws of them and thier participation in our lives creates the excitement he has to become more evolved? More like them? In short? I know not the meaning. Sorry. P.S. Men are evolving quicker and so beautifully! Thank God I was born in these times and not the cavemen days. They lasted longer than science documents I think. :) |

| Oh my. I had a thought. I was thinking the same as WantedMan. But I thought it may be too simple and too white for the Pixies. The Pixies like gray area. Not good, nor bad. Good is just as bad in extremes as Bad. Too shallow for them. I'm wondering if maybe, just maybe these people, are digging the same way others tried to build a ladder. They just had "opposite" goals in mind. I mean, really, if I was asleep for most of my life, then suddenly can't sleep at all? The awakening may not be so glorified..I'm gonna feel like siding with my anger. The old lady is often "kneeling" inside of her hole. I think she must have been lonely for quite some time, thus Frank's interjection of a startled "huh?" It makes me think of an estranged catholic. Kneeling, to find the fire would be quite the opposite of why they do it in the churches, wouldn't it? As the Watchman said also, Fire+ passion and drive, lust and excitement, etc. I think these people felt (as alot of us do) we want more of that. Not satisfied until we get more than the time before. Maybe they feel cheated out of life. I tend to enjoy things other religons call "evil". If I had gone my whole life and then got a taste...like a nun deciding to leave when she's 92 to be sure she had not wasted her god given life...then first beer, first great sex, first wild dance.... I'd be wanting more fire too. I'd be pissed that I decided to hand my freethought and will over to something else that was never recognized nor appreciated all my life when the real task was on the lighted dancefloor....sorry..I got carried away. | Well it comforts me. All of the people mentioned are like "extremists" or similar term could be used since that one got ruined by TV. But they all are going to extremes to find comforts or pleasures. But it's all physical pleasures. If you look at each person mentioned they are trying to find some sort of "nirvana" by using their bodies. I think much of humankind is like that and it's comforting to be reminded others are just as "human" as I. They haven't achieved a nirvana state by any other means more evolved than I. Oh gosh, gimmie a hug my brothers and sisters :) I can't wait til I am free of bones and body. They drag me down, man. | |
