I love this song. I heard it on triple j but Myf didnt say the name of the band or song loudly enough and i had no idea who it was by!!!!!!!!!!! it took so many weeks to figure it out and i thought i'd never hear it again. But i have figured it out... finally... and have discovered the rest of Karnivool's awesome stuff. And the are coming to Canberra!! YAY. This song rocks especially the re-recorded version with the Cat Empire Horn Section |

Ummm someone a few comments back said that were only playing shows in america... dude they played in Sydney... they were so good. unfortunatly Simple plan were the supporting act. they were mediocre. People actually LEFT after Simple plan finished... i was v offended.
I was kinda annoyed at how Green day has changed its target audience... maybe the producers wanted teh $$$ i dunno.. so annoyed not because of their music, but because when i was at the concert these teeny bopper girls were like "OMG what is this song its not on the CD!" when they played basket case....*sigh* they are a bit too commericialsed now.. still like the music but the old green day had so much more |

Im so jealous. Its one of my life goals to see them live. This song has a really cool affect on my mood. Every time I hear it feel like i can handle anything. Maybe its the way the song is structured or something - the climax is so awesome- it brings me out of my ruts. :)
As for what it means to me.. hmm i dunno really. All of the comments so far have merit but i have no interpretation myself. i just love it. |

This song is one i play over and over... obviously cause i love it. I like the build up to "you don't, you don't...etc" its intense.When Maynard "they only perceived how people perceived people"- It took me a while to understand that, but maybe it is refering to those people out there that are 'invisible' to the world so to speak. The people of no consequence who you walk right past without even noticing them. Not just the missunderstood teens and whatnot, but the middle aged women who are kind of trapped in thier motherly role, or men who have no confidence or self esteem. Im generalising but you get the idea. They are everywhere. Anyway thats just one theory, but it fits with the song. What do other people reakon?? |

i think the sculptures were to do with the vid itself. you know all that crazy stuff with the lights and yellow pipes and brick walls (he he, those guys crack me up) I know what you mean about the chorus though.
I had always thought that the song was about obsession and living life to the max. |

Logic: A good song, sung in a way that Green Day wanted to. Its political (as has been said zillions of times) and people eaither love it or hate it for a varitety of reasons. No one is necessarily right... or wrong.

To ME.... well to you the truth I really had to have a good think about it. To me it is a song that talks about questioning your beliefs and your faith. Not just in religion, but in life as well. I like the way it can be interpereted in so many ways. The lyrics are really cleverly written. I like to read all the other opinions, it gives different ideas to think about. I love the Beat to this song! Its about a young guy getting a job in a mine, somewhere in Australia. He needs some money, so why not work the mines? Seems logical. But then he dreams of the Sacred place which he and the company are intruding on. This "Sacred Place' is a Spiritual site for the Aboriginal people of Australia. So the guilt builds up and he is plagued by these dreams, seeing faces of the ancestors of the aboriginal people and the spirits of the land. So when he is sacked, he's relieved that he is not part of this Company Sin.
This song is very deals with a BIG issue in Australia. The treatment of aboriginal sacred land is an issue that is pushed to the side by the government and all the one's before it. Some pieces of land have been 'given' back to them, such as Uluru (Ayres Rock), but the majority of land they hold sacred, is used for mining, development, tree plantations etc. Alot of the places they really want back are out of the question. Could you imagine John Howard handing over Port Jackson??

I want to say that people who call Blink 182 posers should see that they are just a band doing what they want and havin fun. People are getting rather heated over this arnt they?... soooo anyway... I liked the song and its cool they put forward a blunt approach to politics instead of the bloddy hidden menaing stuff we get. (even though that stuff can be good too)

I love this song and i agree with baconreligion bout the drugs thing. It also is kinda reminicent of certain political happenings across the globe i suppose. I was wondering if any one has some ideas bout the meaning behind the line-
