First, a quick correction. He says, "I've come a long way to just fall back into line" instead of "fold". To be honest, I'm not sure what this song is really about. Because of my currant situation, I view it as him getting back into a relationship with his ex, and he wants to make sure he does everything right, and is encouraging her to re-evaluate everything ("Taking time... Turning over every stone"). Also, where he says "Keep both feet on the ground while I change the wings" I think he's saying, "Let's stay grounded at first, but when we fall for each other again, let it be for the right reasons." Does that make sense? The only part that I'm caught on is after that. "I promise one day I'll be coming around from my cloud to see what it's all about." Throughout the song it seems like he's saying "I need your help" or "Let's work together" and then here he's distant. Maybe metaphorically speaking about trying to keep his heart unattached because he's a little afraid? Who knows... |

| This is such a great song! I couldn't find the "official" lyrics for it, so I ended up playing it by ear... It came out better than the other lyrics that I found for it (there were parts where it was all "???"). But anyways, one thing I happened to leave out, is that "Doesn't matter anyway, endless longing anyhow" is repeated twice, the first time with "I get here" underneath, and the second time with "I stay somehow" underneath. I think the second verse pretty much tells the whole story. "Don't make me a chapter/I want to be the whole of the book." She doesn't want to be just a moment or a passing relationship with the guy. She wants to be involved with him till the end. Other than that, I'm not completely sure about the first verse. Maybe the first line is something she was saying to her boyfriend or whoever, literally, and it got her thinking figuratively about life. The last verse, I think, is just her saying she doesn't want anything to happen between them. |

One thing about the lyrics: Matt says moan, not mourn. Anyways... When I first heard the song, I didn't really like it. Like a lot of other people on here have said, I thought it sounded poppier and less.... Muse-like. But, now that I've listened to it a little more, I really like it. I think that it shows how versatile the band is. Just skipping from this song to Assassin is insane! It's great that they can make a song like this, that's probably more marketable than others, and keep their genius with everything else (not to say that this song in itself isn't genius). |

I'm thinking that isn't right, but it sounds something like that. And then, of course, the song goes back into the chorus. I think the first few lines are about sex, too. When he says, "You've got too much to wear on your sleeves" I think he's saying that maybe she wears her heart on her sleeve, and that she's too vulnerable, and that it's his fault. They still love eachother, but in different ways. He loves her, but she only loves him as a friend. Their friendship will never be the same after being together, though, hence the "grey remains of a friendship scarred". For the second verse, he's obviously talking about how she's (in his eyes) bragging about having a boyfriend who gives her everything she wants. He's probably rich, or better off than James in some way ("gluing tinsel to your crown"). She doesn't like to remember how it was before, because she's trying to forget it. I think when he says "You say you're still in love, if it's true what can be done?" he's being almost sarcastis, saying... "You say that, but where you even in love in the first place?" It's hard for him to leave the moments when they were friends behind, because, like I said, it'll never be the same. I don't know about the last part, but my guess is... She "tested" her "metal" or, her "toughness" (which, obviously wasn't tough, which is why it's explained as "doe's skin and petals". Both very fragile, or weak, things), to see if she could do something that isn't possible. Like... Make yourself love someone who you view as just a friend. She was dating him, and she wasn't as serious as he was. He wasn't in it for the sweetness of a new relationship, or of just having a companion, he was in it for everything. I dunno, just a thought, I guess... |

| I dunno why, but for some reason the lyrics remind me of the matrix. Ya know, when Neo is "New Born" again, and he sees what the world is actually like.
