subtitles from the film: I was the dreamer, you were the schemer You deserve what you got I don't love you I let my hate for you show The slut who's buried below in the family plot I don't love you There's a place where dreams come true They don't let in girls like you There you don't need pretty things No pearls or diamond rings You were the one who could not sing But you wanted everything You thrived on being bad And I wanted what you had What's it like down there Down where our father lies Down where our mother sighs We'll all go there to rot I don't love you You made it and you're proud But please don't talk so loud And you know what? I don't love you The girls who got paid to screw Laugh in their tombs about you They know pretty things don't last They're soon a thing of the past But pretty things mean so much They're so sweet, so soft to touch Yes, I was the dreamer and you were the schemer You're me, I'm you You're me, I'm you Their pretty things, that's who we were We loved them, but did they care Now they lie down below There's room for us to grow There's so much damage to repair For all the pain and the despair Why is life so cheap Why must we weep Sleep, Lucie, sleep Sleep, Lucie, sleep |

subtitles from the film: He drove up in a dream car for two that he used to woo So she climbed into his car, that dream car for two And she took off all she wore, but the devil wanted more Just close your eyes Love and death's the prize The man got his way in his cabriolet ... ... ... Just close your eyes Love and death's the prize A few months went by The big babe with big black eyes is taken away It's bye-bye time for you Help! She can't believe it's true Just close your eyes Love and death's the prize When you're fifteen, a voice says to you Your solution you can get from the medicine cabinet The bimbo wept She knew where they were kept She'd come up against a wall She swallowed them all Just close your eyes Love and death's the prize |

actulally, it's Well I loved this town like you did I'll burn it to the ground Packed your things and then you were gone Called a new place home Like you do And you'll never change Well I got a feeling inside Its going to happen again There's a fire deep in your eyes They've never seen before Like you do And you'll never change More than lights expose who you are xam/kibe - at least you're listening ;) |

| Jack's Mannequin – La La Lie Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Actually it's "la la lie" throughout the song...never "la la la lie" Anyway, I disagree that you can just dismiss the whole "la la lie" as a hook. It's more like "I've got friends who will help me pull through." But the "lie" is one of two things as far as I can tell: Either he doesn't actually have friends to help him pull through, OR, the manner in which his friends will help him pull through is by lying--telling him what he wants to hear. |

futurfaildnovlist--I'm with you except for your interpretation of the line "I can't even recognize myself behind" I think it means just that the person being sang about doesn't think about the one singing...he's not on her mind |

"aching, waiting for night--waiting for life to start" its as if he's not satisfied with his actual life--to him, he's living only when he's sleeping. in your dreams, you can write your own path these lyrics make me think of the flaming lips song 'bad days'--"in your dreams ... have it your way" http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=62489 i can relate. sometimes i prefer i had the life i have when i dream than when i'm awake |
