Levellers – Beautiful Day Lyrics 20 years ago
I thought it was to do with when you wake up and its an amazing day, you see all your friends and life is good and you feel like you're invincible and can take on the whole world - hence the revolution references.

I also though it was "Guvara" and not the barman who said that was crazy :p

Easyworld – A Stain To Never Fade Lyrics 21 years ago
I agree completely with Racquel!

Ben Folds Five – One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces Lyrics 21 years ago
I think there is an element of irony here... Is Ben mocking the guy who was bullied? Cos he thinks he's over-important now? Like he's making up for previous inadequecies? It's late, and I can't explain myself properly, gah.

Pet Shop Boys – Yesterday, When I Was Mad (Coconut 12 Mix) Lyrics 21 years ago
Hmm I always thought that it is the guy expressing his irritation about annoying show-biz types who talk down their nose at him in that sarky way and how sometimes he just feels like giving it all up.

Basement Jaxx – Plug It In Lyrics 21 years ago
I think it's about the narrator being intrigued and really wanted someone but only based on what's inside... the person obviously has some kind of exterior they're hiding behind and the narrator is urging them to let go and reveal all.

Or something :p

The Smiths – William, It Was Really Nothing Lyrics 21 years ago
"William" is a typical working class boy in a typical 80s working class town. Morrissey is commenting on the expected life William must follow and urges him to move away from that, push himself and do something with his life.

Dogs Die in Hot Cars – Pastimes & Lifestyles Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this is about people's search for the perfect "package" lifestyle to distract them from real humanity and everyday living. People yearn and strive for the perfect, when in reality it doesn't exist.

Dogs Die in Hot Cars – Lounger Lyrics 21 years ago
Hmm, I think it's more ironic than that. I don't think it should be taken at face value. I think it's a gentle critique of people who have that attitude; who don't want to learn anything because it doesn't affect them directly.
However, it's also a celebration of the first time independent living of those moving away from home and leaving school I feel. "I get up when I like" etc etc.

Dogs Die in Hot Cars – Godhopping Lyrics 21 years ago
I think it's about the false fronts people put on too. Specifically how people go along with things to "have a good time" and go with the flow, even when really, it's not truly them. The chorus has me stumbling though!

Dogs Die in Hot Cars – Somewhat Off The Way Lyrics 21 years ago
Pretty obvious meaning... the guy doesn't wanna waste his life away in a dead end job so goes for whatever dream he has.
It's a great song though :)

Elliott Smith – Waltz #2 Lyrics 21 years ago
I always thought this song was about a girl who left the narrator and married someone else. When he says "mother, it's alright" etc I interpreted that as him brushing off his mother's concerns about his state. But thinking about it, the other theory makes sense.

R.E.M. – Losing My Religion Lyrics 21 years ago
I think Losing My Religion is one of those songs that can be applied to a number of situations. For me, I tend to agree with the homosexuality theory.
"That's me in the spotlight... losing my religion"
When coming out, you are quite obviously in the spotlight. Everybody wants to know and everyone has an opinion of you.
"I don't think I can do it. Oh no, I've said too much, I haven't said enough."
I felt exactly like this when I myself came out as gay. You feel like you can't say what you need because you don't know how people will react, and yet you want to tell everything.
"Every waking hour, I'm choosing my confessions"
Perhaps a reference to those who are still in the closet.. who have to choose carefully what they say aloud and let slip.
"Consider this the hint of the century... the slip that brought me to my knees"
Hints that he is gay to people around him? Brought me to my knees... the reaction from his friends and family, or just people on the street? I'm not saying that this was Stipe's personal experience, but maybe it is an account of somebody's.
But, like I said, i think this is one of those songs you can apply to your own personal experiences and
