I agree with Apollun, it's definitely "the mountain did" and not "the mountain down". Can't hear if he says "but".
It's either what you said, or just "thought my teeth would break, the mountain did." |

my interpretation is that this song is a meditation of the aspects of love that are entrapment and control.
a prequal to heart shaped box, and with milk it being the third in the trilogy |

man this sounds so sludgy. the bleach version was a bit of a pop song but this version is well sludgy like the rest of bleach. not sludgecore sludgy just murky, slower and much fuzzier |

| Alice in Chains – Rain When I Die Lyrics

maybe theres a way of linking evilkillerphones idea with the demri thing...because demri died of bacterial endocarditis, an infection of the heart lining brought on by extensive drug abuse. so maybe heres layne feeling guilty of doing drugs himself and if he had stopped and forced demri to stop she wouldnt have had her life cut so tragically short.
so maybe the guilt, and the feeling of letting a woman take the fall for him kind of links to the fact that he led demri down a path of drug abuse and it was her that took the fall by dying...any comments on this? |

wow it really can mean whatever you want it too, but not by being vague instead its just such empathic writing. like for me, the words "have i run too far to get home" made me think about how ive lived and old age thinking is it too late for old people to get out have fun ski play guitar and rock out....like am i too far gone to come home to what i lvoe....amazing writing. |

im almost 100% certain this song is about the time kurt was living with his friend Jesse. Jesse's family were strongly religious and he found the religious aspect very appealing. this song tells of how religion can act like an anchor on an unsteady mind, just as the drug lithium acts like an anchor to the "unsteady mind" of people with bipolar disorder. |
