I really enjoy this song. I wonder what really drove the Bones to make this song... The lyrics are powerful, but beset by the droll underwhelming way they are delivered. The melody alternates between being a powerful staccato and a melodic phrase. Abstractly, the song strikes me as an expression of the raw power inherent in the feeling Sigmund Freud described as Thanatos: a desire or craving for destruction, chaos, and death. Afterward, the chorus chimes in, overwhelming this morbid desire with benevolence. |
