I find it hard to decifer ANY smashing pumpkins song theyre so cryptic but i'll give it a shot anyway! I think the song is basically about love or more specific about crushes and their destructive nature. Love is seen as something beautiful a euthoric feeling but it can turn against you also. "he loves none sweeter as sweeter the dare her mouth the mischief he doth seek " This bit i thought could be about rejection. he knows that in one word from the girl he likes he could be crushed. The devil references add to this its the negative in love. "so note all ye lovers in love with the sound your world be shattered with nary a note of one cupids arrow under your coat" This again just goes with what i said in the begining the idea of love although known as something really special it can turn on you. You could become infatuated and woeful etc! the idea of the arrow too might go with my crushes theory because although its reffering to cupids arrow it also could be about the nature of crushes sometimes u just cant help who you like and a bloody great arrow can just plop into you! haha! "we seek the unseekable and we speak the unspeakable our hopes dead gathering dust to dust in faith, in compassion, and in love " At the end i thought this bit could be about people who once they get rejected dwell on it and slump into a depressed mode maybe afraid of love and scared to do it again. Love is the reason for their unhappiness. so i think this song could be about the double nature of love. a sort of educated guess but it might all be random brain spasm i had enjoy! :) |

"a bloody invitation ... lifes flow"- This just reinforces the idea of blood and vampire theme not man juice! like some dirty minded people think! ;) "Do you want to feel the warmth? To taste the life?"- He is inviting another to join him as a vampire. "one to consume one to renew"- maybe he feels that when the foreign blood enters his body they become a part of him?? Just basically about a vampire and him asking another to join him.Maybe the vampire theme is a metaphor for something else but blah im stumped. ({-*-}) |

I think this song is about the pheonix theatre. Its obvious from the description that davey is reliving a performance maybe of one of his heroes onstage which inspire him in his band now. "The cricle of rage, the ghost on the stage appeared" ---the circle of rage is reffering to the mosh pits woo! and the ghost on the stage could be his idol someone from a band he likes. They could be seen as ghosts because they are so mystical unreal or the dramatic way which they just appear onstage. "The teenage death boys ,The teenage death girls"--reffering to the gothic make up worn by the people in the audience. "I fell into yesterday ... Our Dreams seemed not far away"---he is looking back at the time when he was looking up at the stage dreaming that he would be the one gracing it, his dream of being a singer was closer than ever at these times. Basically AFi rock the big smelly fetus? yeah theyre great! |
