I've just got what this song means. It's a rough recasting of The Tragical History of Dr. Faustus; German folklore and also a play by Christopher Marlowe. I won't go into every detail, but take what that other guy said about Lucifer = Lucinda and it all makes sense - the narrator of the song devotes himself to this Lucinda character, does a lot of crazy stuff in his life but ultimately will never see heaven nor home, just as Faustus sold his soul to the devil. |

| Tom Waits – Road to Peace Lyrics

This is awesome - Tom has diverted from the usual anti-war style of songs and instead opted for this 'happy medium' - making the point that it's not only "bad, bad america" as Moore, Springsteen and crew believe, but there are others in the world just as bad (often worse, "cutting off hands" etc), and also highlights what people often overlook: the wya other cultures try to find the way to peace. It's excellent. |

| Pink Floyd – Echoes Lyrics

I just had a crazy idea about it whilst listening... It sounds a bit like a man making his way to heaven (and starts to climb towards the light), looking back on earth and his life (the echoes of his life). Then, perhaps when he arrives he finds a lack of humanity...is lonely (no one sings me lullabies).
Crazy and slightly inconclusive, but just an idea. |

| Pink Floyd – Any Colour You Like Lyrics

Tenuous connection here but; this sounds a lot like the incidental music from Dawn Of The Dead by Dario Argento. Dawn Of The Dead is a film about consumerism and humans portrayed as zombies who just want to shop, shop, shop. And here, the title of this song 'Any colour you like' is a consumerist reference, about availability; what you can buy and in what colour. |

| Pink Floyd – A New Machine (Part 1) Lyrics

I always found another meaning to this and most of the stuff on AMLOR. I thought it was a cry for help to Roger. 'The Machine' is Pink Floyd, that entity which has skipped eath twice and is still dormant; and here The Machine is calling for Roger to rejoin them and that they will always be there waiting for him; 'Sometimes I get tired of the waiting' and then a further message to tell him to hurry up; 'Nobody lives forever'. Pink Floyd work as a machine and at the moment they are a new kind of machine without Roger. Part 2 is just an extension; another piece of advice for Roger 'it's only a lifetime'. |

Can I point out that ABACA is the format of Rondo form in Musical Terminoligy. So perhaps the song is in Rondo form, with an extra B section? I'm not that familiar with the song so I can't confirm it myself. |

| Pink Floyd – The Great Gig in the Sky Lyrics

Yes the whisper does not say "If you can hear this whisper you're dying" it says "I never said I was afraid/frightened of dying".
The song you cannot do justice with words, it is an isolated masterpiece, Think about it. The song itself has no discernible words, so how can you talk about it? It is a sublime piece of art, and untouchable. It was also Claire's second attempt at this. She started to use real words but they decidied it wouldn't work. So they told her to just wail/scat/improvise. And she did. Walked out thinking "that'll never see the light of day again" and hence isn't even credited for the voice.
And for those of you who cannot recognise the coincidences between the wizard of oz and dark side, start the album on the second roar of the MGM lion.
Also you must have an actual copy of the CD; not a copy or rip. Hope all this helps.

| Pink Floyd – Time Lyrics

This song to me means a lot of things.
Firstly, For the first 15 years or so of my life, I had virtually no social life. No parties. No girlfriends. I had lots of friends, just no close friends. Then the line "Waiting for someone or something to show you the way" really applies to me. I finally raked in a girl, and finally had a half-dedent social life. I was no longer "kicking around a piece of ground in my home town" or "lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain."
I had caught up with Time. The question is, can I keep up with it?
Of course not, no one can. Because the sun is the same in a relative waym but you're older. Shorter of breath and one day closer to death. |
