Isn't the part:
But look at the lovers
In the telephone stands
And the way they move and the way move their hands
And look at their babies
Playin’ in the sand
And the way they get loved and the way they get loved

| Big Brother & The Holding Company – All is Loneliness Lyrics

The guys of Big Brother & the Holding Co. got this song off of a blind poet named Moon Dog on the streets of New York City. I like Janis's added commentary about coming home to nothing everyday. Janis adapted this song really well and it kind of fits the theme of lonlieness that she often sings of. |

Beautiful Joplin-penned song about the search for hope. It's about trying to see the optimism in situations, but always seeming to come up short. It's kind of a hopeless song, but the passion it is sung with makes it so powerful. |

Another one of the few Janis-penned songs, Ego Rock kind of tells the story of Janis Joplin. Gotta love the blues :) Especially like the part about leaving Texas w/ just her name and coming to the city and learning a new game. |

| Big Brother & The Holding Company – Turtle Blues Lyrics

This was one of the few Joplin-penned songs. It really sums up her personality though. Joplin's insecurities were so deep. They floated beneath the surface of Janis's passion and fire. Her insecurities prevented her from being able to open up to lovers and other people in her life without fear. To counter the fear, she adapted an overwhelming personality. The shell Janis (the turtle) is hiding under, is her fears. It's a beautiful song. |

| Janis Joplin – To Love Somebody Lyrics

This song was written & recorded by the Bee Gees.
I really love Janis's rendition of it though. You can tell that she really feels what she's singing. It's wanting someone so bad, and feeling like it's a hopeless battle--being completely in love with someone who doesn't want you back. That was kinda the whole theme for "I Got Dem Ol Kozmic Blues Again, Mama!". |
