Seether – The Gift Lyrics 20 years ago
Such a beautiful song. MaggieMichelle is right on, I think.

Iron Maiden – Fear of the Dark Lyrics 20 years ago
Selpi, Cradle of Filth did indeed do a cover of this song. Never actually heard Graveworm's cover of it, but I'll take your word on it. Blind Guardian also did a cover of this song. It's shortened, but really good.

Dark Tranquillity – Atom Heart 243.5 Lyrics 20 years ago
I hate making guesses as to the meanings of songs, but this one really intrigues me. Great song, by the way. Take note of who wrote the lyrics... Sundin. A bit out of the norm, but definitely not bad.

Anyways, as to my idea about the lyrics...
I think it's about nuclear warfare. The name "Atom Heart" gives a bit of a clue. Also worth mentioning is 243.5. That's the atomic weight of Plutonium, which is the material used in atomic weapons. There are also some lines in the lyrics that could really relate to the nuclear theme.
"Death rode these silent caravans
and steered them to the rim of the world."
"The enterprise, academy
the crafts held in our hands
all devoted to the art of dying"
"The enterprise, wolvenlore
the cursed seed of man
plunged through the tunnels of uncreation"

Just my thoughts... that's what struck me as soon as I listened to the song.

Dream Theater – Lie Lyrics 20 years ago
I don't really have a whole lot to offer regarding the meaning of this song, but I do agree that it's thematically connected to The Mirror (which is a top-knotch song, so check it out if you haven't. I'm pretty new to Dream Theater and I bought Awake just the other day. I'm a bit disappointed with it though. Most of the songs on it come off pretty flat. Don't get me wrong - they're well written and the musicianship is superp, as with all Dream Theater stuff. It must be a production thing.

Thornley – The Lies That I Believe Lyrics 20 years ago
Well, after posting the lyrics I thought there would be a ton of responses, but only one so far. This is my all-time favorite song by any artist. 6 minutes of pure awesomeness =) I love to put this song on and just crank the volume (but only once in a while... gotta save the ears). The opening electric riff is mind-blowing at high volume. Gotta make sure you have good speakers or headphones.

As for meaning, it's obviously about someone who's in denial and clings to lies, even though he knows they're nothing more than lies. It's in the context of relationships, but I don't think Ian meant for it to be very specific. The lyrics can cover a number of situations and you can apply them however you want.

"The lies that I believe are true": every time I hear that I think it's absolutely brilliant. Paradox of the century =) And what about that growly bridge. I absolutely love it, and it's so true. And that soaring solo... Thornley isn't as big on solos as many other bands, but I can't think of a more perfect way to end the album.

If you haven't bought the album yet, you owe it to yourself to get it. 12 songs, and not a single skipper. If you like good, solid hard rock you can't be disapointed.

Guns N' Roses – Welcome To The Jungle Lyrics 20 years ago
It's pointless to compare band members. A band is made up of whatever each individual member can bring to it, and it's these unique parts that make a whole. crazicooki, you say that Slash is "much better than Axl", but that comment is utterly pointless. Axl couldn't possibly play guitar like Slash, but there's no way Slash could ever match Axl's sreech that we've all come to love so much. And Izzy and the rest all brought their own vital part to the band as well. The band all of them together - not any individual, and they all do their own bit to complement the others. So please stop comparing.

Great band, great song. Anyone have the greatest hits album? It's good, but I just wish there some more upbeat ones like this on it. Even though the ballads are great, there's too many on that disk.
