| U2 – I Will Follow Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Yeah, i am with myhero78. From what i have read Bono was planning on writing a song about a Mothers unding love for her son... but it ended up being much more about a sons love for his mother... or somthing like that. | |

| U2 – Angel Of Harlem Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I have heard that this is one of Bono's fav songs... i am not sure why. To me this song is ok, but IMO it has no place being on any best of... it would not even make my 'best of rattle n hum' | |

The refernce to Goldman (while i dont fully know the details) is a counter atack. Goldman whote a scathing book about Lennon and Bono was getting back at him. In hindsight do you think this song was a preview to the 'new U2' (after AB). The sound of this song would not be out of place on AB. |

| I absolutly love the lyrics of this song. The imagry is fantastic. Lyricly i think this is one of the best song off Boy. I love the line 'walls of white protest, gravestone in name' | |

Yep, i have read (and it is somewhat obvious) that it is about suicide and think about what it would be like if he was gone. Good song. |

To me it kinda starts off a new era for U2. As after Rattle n Hum they kinda were in overload and were ready to give it all up. Also this is when Edge broke up with his wife and was ready to quit and i read that Bono said that with out Edge they would not have gone on. Bono actualy referd to this as U2 breaking up then reforming as a new band with the same members. AB was a masive change in U2 and their direction (much greater then the more gentle changes between War to the Joshua Tree). So yeah 'Im read...' lines are saying 'here we are, this is us now'. I read a but much into this here but i have it as a bit of a response to 'Love rescue me' (see my coments on it). Were Love rescue me is the end of Bono the Christion and Zoo Station says 'hello to Bono the rock star'. |

lol at joeytheboy - sorry as said by kingmikeking it was written by Salman Rushdie, who was a muslum who converted to christianity and wrote a book called 'satanic verses'. It was a book basicly saying the Koran was an evil. Needless to say this did not make him very poplular and there was a death threat put out on his life for 10 years. He went into hiding to avoid being killed and at the end of the 10 years he pops up at Bono's house - apparently he had been hanging out there. Anyway, he wrote this song and it is about the koran. "all my life i worshiped her". I think but i am not sure of this but 'the ground benth her feet' is some from of obsucure (or maby not obsure) quote or referance from the the Koran. |

To me i see this song as Bono turnign away from God or at least Christianity, kind of a losing faith. My major reasion for thinking that is the miss quote of Ps 23:4 Ps 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. NKJV And Bono sings: "Yea, though I walk In the valley of the shadow Yea, I will fear no evil I have cursed thy rod and staff They no longer comfort me" That seems pretty clear to me. It is only fitting that he sings it with Dylan (who has rumored to have done very little toward 'co writing' this song), seem Dylan also went throug a stage of writting 'Christian' songs then turnd away from it. From this alburm on almost all of Bono's refrences to God or the bible are in a sort of sarcastic or at least questioning way. For example take 'Staring at the sun' - "God is great but will he listen' or from 'If God would send his angles' - "God has got his phone off the hook baby, would he even pick up if he could". From 'Acrobat' - "I would break bread and wine if there was a church i could recieve in" And from 'For the first time' - "My father is a rich man He wears a rich man's cloak Gave me the key to his kingdom coming Gave me a cup of gold He said: I have many mansions And there are many rooms to see But I left by the back door And I threw away the key" Which is a clear refrence to God and is a quote from the Bible. In this song the character is offerd a place in heaven (for want of a better way to discribe it) but he rejects as he 'left by they back door and threw away the key' There are many other examples but i think people are board with it by now lol Cheers, UCC |

| U2 – New Year's Day Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| U2takemehigher - those lines fit in with what i have read about this song, and that is that it is about end times - Under a blood red sky - refers to the 'moon to blood' prophercy from Joel. 'A crowd has gather black and white' is in reference to the great ingathering from every tribe nation etc. The 'golden age' is also a reference along thise lines if anyone cares enough to ask me i will find out some more on it. This makes sense as well as it was this period that U2 were their most relegious. | |

| In the DVD that comes with the Album Bono talks about a refernce to their first single - Stories For Boys - is that the 'Hello Hello'? | |
| U2 – 40 Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I agree that it is simply a song taken from Ps 40. From what i have read on it, is they recorded it while Adam was not in the studio (which makes sense seem Adam was not a Christian), i think Bono played bass for it. | |
| U2 – Original of the Species Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I was listening again to the interview disc from Pop and in that Bono call the Edge 'The Origional of the species'. I could not believe it. | |
