| Every Time I Die – Revival Mode Lyrics

Sounds like a song questioning being his path in life in a band. I know that seems to be a theme of this album from what has come out so far, with "Underwater Bimbos.." comparing his timeline to that of friends with "normal" lives. |

I feel like everyone here missed the point.
The title is blatant sarcasm, and the chorus is pointing out the futility of so many peace demonstrations and "protests".
Protest Songs in response to military aggression.
Protest songs to try and stop the soldier's gun.
But the battle raged on.
Singing a song in some hippy-ville like Ithaca, NY isn't going to get anyone to put their rifles down in Iraq or anywhere else. |

Tonight Frank mentioned that it's about a weekend he had spent, starting Saturday night, drinking with a friend who found out his girlfriend was pregnant, then finding that Sunday was completely blank as he realizes it was actually Monday when he regained consciousness. |

I think most people are taking the song too literally. He's not actually talking about being a king, just using the biblical, Roman, and other references to explain how he had it all and lost much of it. Metaphors. |

I don't know if it's been said yet, but during his solo tour with Kevin Devine, he explained that it was a song that changed meaning through it's life.
It started as a letter to himself, then it changed to be a letter from the fans to the band after their long absence. |

If it helps any of you, Jesse said at one of the Jesse/Kevin Devine shows that the song morphed meanings. It started as a letter to himself, then when the song was released, it turned into a letter from the fans to the band regarding the long time off between albums. |

1,2,3,4,5,6,7 is counting up to something which I'm not sure of, but is most certainly religious, then he repeats 777 - "perfection" in the Bible, aka God. |

On Untitled 5, it's "the best plans of both mice and men" not old. That's the only correction I have, and it was pretty useless, but yea.
#5 is by far my favorite, and it got me to look up that poem that Of Mice and Men is from. |

How is that a bad thing, exactly?
Other than brainless kids at the shows, I mean, cuz I understand that.
But you should be happy that they aren't listening to the other crap that's on the radio, and you should be happy for the band's success. |

I love this song. It's completely different than a lot of their other songs, and it's done so well. I like how he's singing in a different tone than usually. The deeper sound is great in this track. |

I haven't heard too many of the songs from the new CD, but reading the lyrics, I'm a little disappointed. It seems that there are so many allusions to other songs by other bands, most likely unintentional. It just seems like FOB lost its lyrical touch that made their last 2 releases so good. |
