| Tunng – Bullets Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Our blood and guts are out We spread our bones across the table at night We cut our fingers off To give ourselves those little extra insights" We spread our guts - Get things off of our chest. And cut our fingers off to spite our hands. - Destroy ourselves to prove a point. I find this verse brings up an image of late night conversations or arguments. Things which the people in question feel need to be said but at the expense of possibly jeopardizing their relationship. Be it platonic or intimate. "Green hills and enemies These things they make us sentimental inside Your words are gelignite Or just another sentimental aside" Being sentimental for those late nights where your words were spiteful and passionate (gelignite is an explosive). Saying you are sentimental for your green hills and enemies means battles between your friends in my opinion. From personal experience, my must intense arguments are between me and the ones i love. I reckon the song is generally about being honest with the ones you love, even at the expense of hurting them. You can appreciate the honesty because you can trust them, even when it's hard to hear. It shapes us, gives us some insight into what we can't see ourselves. I believe catching bullets with our heads and hearts refers to being told to change before it's too late. Be it drink or a failing relationship. |

| Say Anything – Spidersong Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I see it as the narrator using the woman for sex. Catching her in his web, using her for what he wants but having no emotional attachment to her whatsoever. He is completely aware of what he is doing and he is also aware that she wants something more but he just doesn't care. He'd rather keep it carnal. I think the line "you've got those tired eyes all the time" relates to how emotionally worn out she is but his solution is to bed her rather than stop. I guess the basis of the song is that if you're looking for something to take away your loneliness of being single, then sleeping around is only going to fill that void for a short period of time before you feel it again. |

| Converge – Heaven in Her Arms Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Jacob turned to her, gave all he had and finally said "i love you". the big step. He thought she was someone different, someone special, but she left. She ran away from it. It scared her and killed what they had. Simple lyrics for converge, not as cryptic, but just as powerful. I think Jacob wrote it for this reason, because nothing is a testament to how powerful some words can be than "i love you". |

| Converge – Homewrecker Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think this is about the destruction and heartache caused by Jacob's girl with no remorse. "I've given you the longest of rivers and the longest of rope" The longest of rope part would be enough to hang yourself with. But she doesn't realize how destructive she's being. "Knee deep among your wreckage and uncertainty" hints at how much Jacob has to deal with. Wreckage and uncertainty perhaps as to how she emotionally toys within and now he's sick of it. "I've lost count of the second chances" |

| Converge – Hell to Pay Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's more about an ex who killed himself as told from the current boyfriend. "As the second best he'll become" I reckon she moved on and found a new guy and it tore him apart because of it. The way Jacob says "as cold as those first nights alone" may be about how low he felt the night she wasn't in his bed with him. The first night after a break up and now the night where he realises she's moved on. He feels worthless again. I know that when an ex of mine moved on before i had, it hurt quite a bit. The sleep deep bit of it could mean either try to sleep, don't feel it's your fault for moving on or it could be the ex's thoughts to her in a sort of "forget about me" way of thinking. |

| Converge – Fault and Fracture Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I reckon this is the way Jacob's attention to his friends suffered when he was with his jane doe and, more to the point, the way he was pulled between her and his friends. The imagery of aggression and the imagery of his obsession for her. "You were my last great war. You were my heaven ablaze Riddled with faults and fractures" The ideology of the perfect girl, then the reality of her faults. In the end he has no one left to turn to. Throwing himself into loneliness from the consequences of his actions. |

| Trophy Scars – Assistant. Assistants. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I personally think this song means more than just being kids growing up. Sure, it features nostalgic days, but i think this is aimed at them making it as a band. The nostalgia is about them wishing to make it as a band and maybe "In two years this voice will die" is more literal. It's either their message will be spent or his voice will give out. "I've got so many names to thank. Should we start with Mary?" This could be a reference to thankyou speeches after they've made it. But i think it's more about the underbelly of what being a band nowadays consists of. "This is not me, this is not me. This is me. Getting old, getting cold and getting stoned. I'll write backwards and call it art. I'll set things right from the very start. And I know my heart won't get in the way, I hope to God that they take me away." This could be how a label wants them to churn out tune after tune and maybe the fear of losing their inspiration? I dont know. Just shooting some ideas about. Get you thinking |

| AFI – Totalimmortal Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It seems people have been commenting on this song for a good few years, but not one person has mentioned the double meaning song title. In that, you find maybe an aspect of the song that you might not of otherwise noticed. Total Immortal and, saying it again, it sounds like Totally Mortal. It makes me feel that the song is showing that it's a debate, with two sides. Or more, a contradiction. Davey is saying, in my opinion, that he is surrounded by people, be it at shows or through expressing himself, that they are ignorant. If you look it at in places like it's the situation with the music scene. The nameless, every face looking familiar. Either it's about how everyone is looking the same or how people are drones to the music, there for the hell of it, singing the words but not knowing the thought behind it. It shows a striving artist starving in the lack of expression. People dont get it. It could also be about davey's sXe. I know now as much as i ever have, how people joke and taunt edge kids because of their choice. He is proud of being edge, but he is only human. On the outside he looks like the Total Immortal, but inside, he is totally mortal. Just another person, choosing another way of life. Stop seeing it as a cool thing to mock edge kids and dress the scene if you dont know what it's about. Come to the shows to express yourself, to relate, not to doom yourself to numbly singing songs and taunting about things you can't comprehend. (and i'd like to note, i'm in no way edge, but i respect anyone that choices that way of living without poisoning their bodies) |

| The Walkmen – The Rat Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I don't think this symbolises the ending of a relationship, but more of a constant struggle people seem to have. We've all seen it. The ones that ruib each other up the wrong way and break up, make up all the time. It's forgiving someone, trusting them, only for them to make the same mistake, playing the same record over and over again. This is the person saying, enough is enough, why call me? why come to me again? Im not going through this again. Either something's happened within a group of friends and they've all seperated or it's a relationship. I think it's more the group of friends aspect though. If you look at the song in 2 parts, played by both people. The one saying you've got a nerve, and the other trying to contact them. "When I used to go out, I would know everyone that I saw Now I go out alone if I go out at all" This kinda makes me think it's about that aspect more with the group of friends. For some reason, be it his fault of the other persons, he no longer is with the people he used to hang out with. And it's made him bitter. top song. I remember seeing this on 120minutes on MTV2 and still my favourite song by the walkmen |

| Alexisonfire – Polaroids of Polar Bears Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I think the song has more depth to it than just "random thoughts" and stuff. Maybe im looking too deep into it, but i originally thought of it being a story of how school was messed up and they were making excuses for it. But at the same time, it being about a bipolar kid who trusted someone only to be let down. He lost his only allie within school and as result, school was no longer a place to be with people, but simply education... "boxes of cats, people with taz tattoos, explosive personalities, self centered, protractors, brand new geometry sets, inability to do math, geography, polaroids of polar bears. |

| Bright Eyes – An Interview with Conor Oberst Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I personally found this interview compelling. I figured it was fake, but i wasn't aware it wasn't conor speaking. But personally, i don't think it matters to much as it made an impact to me along the lines of how he speaks. Apparently it was intended as a joke, and many people have found this hilarious, but my initial impression of it was something far deeper. The way he goes about speaking so sporadically is familiar and almost comforting to anyone who has had troubles with anxiety or depression. The whole thing is full of cut and paste theories and quotes and can relate to a lot of people, including myself. But yeah...this whole thing about "what is emo?" - don't lose sleep over it. If you wish to be politically correct about what emo was initially, then whatever. But nowadays, especially in England witihn the last 2 years, Emo has became less of a genre and more or a way of expression. It is not restricted to punk, acoustic, or anything along those lines (although acoustic is still common with emo - the spill canvas, straylight run, something coroporate etc). There are sub genres of sub genres now and it should not matter about what a band fits into. Pidgeon holing a band or yourself is a sure fire way to become merely another "scenecore" wannabe. Another face. Personally, emo is anything thst strikes emotion amongst someone. Something non-generic, and more universally accepted. We don't all cry, and cutting sucks. Not all of us wear sweaters or belts around our arses, or carry messenger bags and LP's with long, greasy, jet black hair. If you wish to stereotype someone as "emo" or define what emo is, then you are clearly misguided and need to wake up to the fact that there is more to life than classifying people. |

| Good Charlotte – Mountain Lyrics | 21 years ago |
To "neonlovechick", I believe the line "i wasn't on a mountain when it came to me" is a way of saying they started from the bottom, and inspiration came from their own lives as they lived them, rather than sitting on a mountain contemplating lifes issues. They are saying their songs come from around them and what they've been through. To "oleander", i'm pretty sure "I'd give up all these dreams to have you in my arms right now" is them saying, although they are a famous band and they have, allegedly, everything, they would give up all the fame if it meant they could be with the one they love. |
