i like your interpretation, potato ;p i think that's why i like it so much too. how adults forget the child in them. and how that can make lovers act cold and serious rather than being playful with eachother. |

videos do not equal meaning. videos are trying to deliver a message, which very well could be satirical. i posted earlier here and thought it was a satire... the only line different from saying how great it is when everyone is in, is that "it's so much easier when seafoam green is in fashion". and it's so arbitrary... seafoam green. this could reflect how people do turn things like color into an *IT* thing rather than embracing everything, as incubus' other songs tend to promote. this is a mockery of mob mentality. |

| TV on the Radio – Poppy Lyrics

To me, this song is about consummate love. (Fully expressed intimacy, passion and commitment in a relationship) After I'd read all the lyrics, this song became really meaningful to me and I kind of view it as the kind of love I strive to keep/have.
I think the mommy/poppy bit reads "we don't need the other to care for us in the way a parent does." a childish sort of need. sometimes in a relationship one partner becomes the more responsible one, helping support the other (through money or what else) and the other becomes like a child, completely dependant. since he mentions there's a long time before they get old (and would then perhaps rely upon the care of the other), i think this makes sense.
when he's watching the animals out in nature, eating together, flying together, having sex... he feels like that's them. just living life together. without complex drama or need. just a quiet, content way of life.
throughout the song he refers to how they have their own "individuality" and i agree with what whispersoft interpreted here. their love says "i don't need to turn you out, you don't need to turn me into your whore"... they respect, and love eachother's unique personalities and views on life. animals don't change for eachother. it seems "natural" to him for them to just be, and be together (nicely said egotrippen). |

so i was also thinking that in the chorus and start, the "you" he speaks of could be his dissociation made into an identity.
Whenever I breathe out, you're breathing it in
Looked at in this way, it's as though his own state of mind is taking everything away from himself. He can't do anything, because how he feels cancels it all out. The song opens with the "I haven't seen you around in awhile"... perhaps himself? His dissociated state looking out on his 'self'? I could really see someone singing/saying these thoughts to his/her self in a mirror. |

she feels like she's doing something bad, but doesn't know what she's doing. the song is peaceful, almost funny because of the honesty in it. i think she likes some boy, but doesn't know why, and doesn't want to mix him up. |

i think it's interesting that the song picks up so quickly at the beginning with the happy carrying tune, and at the end it lifts you up and fades out within seconds. unsettling. fake palindromes - a lack of balance? wanting something to be, that isn't? swapping blood with formaldehyde - dying inside. then later that same blood in her eyes - preservation in her eyes, but not real love? the song sounds confusing, like something that almost *IS*, but you can't put your finger on what. |

also the lyrics to this song are so devoid of meaning, unlike most other incubus songs, going along with the whole satire of: follow the group! mentality. |

how it fades around and out at the end says a lot to me. like things get desolate once all the voices stop singing and trying to be the same. it's a satire. |

| Incubus – Nice To Know You Lyrics

I think a lot of this song is about being awake & conscious of more than just your own feelings towards a situation. Pins & Needles = numbness coming alive, recognizing how you are truly feeling, and seeing 'the wood for the trees', having a perspective that he describes gives you the power to turn a mighty blizzard (or an unpleasant situation that could be interpreted much worse than it acutally is) in to a breeze, something that has a very minimal affect on you. thought control, power of the mind. pins and needles, awaking consciousness of his power to take action again with the once numbed-part revived. |

how disconnected people seem when they need to rely upon eachother the most ... calling is talking but a different kind of communication [disconnected/not face to face], especially with doctors... patients need reasurrance, personal concern from those who perform upon them... but "no need to call", existing disclaimers and known errors and problems... indicates a stiff, emotionless relation from doctor to patient. bright lights and white tile floor make it seem like all is clean and pure and attention is fully to the patient, but it isn't that way really... the place seems rather muted and dark. |

i'm agreeing with GOD & the "disassociation" rather than depression, as far as depression being seen more as a "hurt"/"sad" spell, but disassociation more of a "indifferent"/"overthinking" stupor. numb. but i see it as being more scary and awful than depression, because it'd be even harder to fight against when the +/- ends stick together. things feel entirely pointless rather than just upsetting. and it's hard to communicate indifference. |

i think this song's about how man's downfall will be HIMSELF... the song talks about being ETERNAL, IMMORTAL, but his "tongues untied" (knowledge/communication/beliefs) condemn fellow men to die... also it seems to deal some with spirtuality, "let the smoke carry his name" to the baby boy being a sacrafice? but "if it's a girl, let her shine".. i think the song's a lot about pride, pride of being human and being greedy, selfish, stacking up our supplies. wonderful song. |

| Sunny Day Real Estate – Faces In Disguise Lyrics
| 21 years ago
|
|
i think this song is a lot about how the world of people is so strange, fast paced, a loss of desire, a love for the world, anything. modern people don't often look at passing strangers, and when they do, they don't see people. it's people in disguise of how they really feel, afraid to be honest, afraid to feel passion. in this song he is speaking of a faith or a person who he wants to escape from this monotonous black and white world and be amazed by how incredible things are again. |
