After more thought i think it could be the square room is a live venue, and the round room is a cd. I dont know if he is refering to himself, or putting shit on another person or band that cant play live, but a lot of his songs (if not all) can be linked somehow to this topic Maybe a recording is a more personal experience? "The people that souround me are waiting out there In a round room they can't find me anywhere " It just has to be that. "Put me in a square room and I won't know what to say I want a round room at the end of the day" "Right angle rooms drive me craizer each day Put me in a box I know I'm never going to play " Could be chess? |

First, a casset tape is square. A cd or record is round. the information of cd's and records are in a spiral, but not quite a set of stairs. Maybe mike has a fetish for good quality audio? or warm sounds? he might really really dislike tapes (like my dad) |

the_toolshed, no idea what you mean, or the lyrics for that matter . one thing i like about the song is that each line could have its own individual interpretation. |

i think it might be a bit more than that. just take the first and last line and put them together. 'Now that you've deceived me, and played my name around' 'I'll pick you up at eight as usual, listen for my horn' im not one to say what its about. could be someones wife fighting with them, an addiction. basicly anything that you like so much, but at times there are bad consequences, and due to either ignorance or persistance, it doesnt change the relationship. |

skemodan, i agree mostly. it dam sure is about being born, possibly born again, in a different way (no, not that way :P) i think its about finally understanding life. once you understand something like that, you are really on top of the world. free. but also mabey the ability to control and confine that understanding to yourself, as it would be unique, and be able to use it to your advantage in this world. |

first, i feel sorry for people who have to get stoned/want to modify their bodies chemicals to think openly. it truley isnt needed. some music helps a lot ;) "I was taught a month ago To bide my time and take it slow But then I learned just yesterday To rush and never waste the day" this part could be about school holidays. i dont know about your 'summer' hollidays in america, but here in australia, we get a bit more than a month off school around christmas. definently know the feeling of wanting to do nothing at the start of them, then wishing i had done more at the end. any yer, if anyone out there is dismissing any lyrics of phish, im not gona judge you, but there is definently meaning if all of the ones i have heard. the verbal communication part of any good song is not about what is being said, just as most short stories (and other forms of literature) is not only about the storyline. the use of words in sentences and paragraphs, according to the storyline or meaning, and how you use them, are the primary difference between meaningless lyrics and those created by any member of phish, tom marshall, any song they may have covered at one stage, among others, and lyrics which use words that have meaning, but no value. its as much an artform as traditional art. its a mixture of the subject, material, medium, techniques and style. |

| i think its got something to do with the material possesions of this world. because, when you die, well, it just doesnt matter. all that matters is what you instill in other people who are alive after you. | |

| Phish – Sample In A Jar Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| A little boy went to the show/circus/whatever you call it. He went and played a game where you have to shoot the ducks with an air rifle. He knocked it down. He won a fish. | |
