This isn't an anti-christian song and I'm tired of people saying it is. It's about a guy (whether or not he's Kurt is illrelavant to the meaning) who has such low self-esteem that he believes he's not good enough for god (Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam because sunbeams aren't made like me) so he decides to cut the crap and not go through the motions (like some people do) and just give up because he would bewasting his time because he's going to hell anyway. And since he's going to hell he doesn't think he should feel sorry for Jesus's sacrifice because Jesus's sacrifice hasn't helped him. NO where in this song does he state that he is a aetheist or a god hater or anything anti-god. Need proof that stated in the line "Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam". Right there he is stating that he believe in the existence of god. |

Third off, my friend (who is really obsessed with Nirvana) thinks the song is about Kurt Cobain's death. That the lie is how people said Kurt commited suicide but was actually murdered (his opnion) and that the line get born again means reincarnation. I actually kind of believe this myself but I don't think Staley (or all of Alice in Chains for that matter) like Nirvana it's probably not true. |

I didnt't read all the posts so I'm not sure if someone said this but this is basically Kurt's suicide note turned into a song. The first verse is all his regrets about being famous. "What else could I be all apologies" He's saying that he's sorry he couldn't be what the public wanted him to be "What else could I say Everyone is gay" He couldn't be a rebel like people wanted him to because people might get offended and he meant gay as in stupid "What else could I write I don't have the right" He can't write anymore songs because of the influence he had on some people (for example two guys raped a girl while singing Polly and it was supposed to be an anti-rape song) "In the sun In the sun I feel as one In the sun In the sun I'm married, buried" Not totally sure what this means but he's probably referring to the publics eye when he says sun "I wish I was like you Easily amused" Probably talking about how the public is easily amused by songs by Nirvana that he hated (I.E Smells like teen spirit) "Find my nest of salt Everything's my fault" This is talking about how the public invaded his privacy then got blamed for the secrets he was keeping "I'll take all the blame Aqua seafoam shame" How alot of people blamed him for getting Courtney addicted to drugs even though she did them before they met "Sun burn with freeer burn Choking on the ashes of her enemy" I think he's referring to Courtney as the sunburn and the media as the freezer burn and the second line is how the media wasn't friendly to Courtney either. "Oh no is all we are All alone is all we are" For one its not "All in all is all we are" because that makes no sense and as for the meaning it's about his relation ship with the media which he describes as "Oh no" and the second line he's reffering to his relationship with Courtney "All alone" |

| The two verse's are more about Layne Staley while the chorus is about Kurt Cobain pretty much. The thing you guys haven't pointed out is that both Kurt and Layne died on the same day (April 5th) but different years and that's how the title came. Kinda weird that two of Grunge's most famous singers died on the same day don't you think. | |

Also I believe Kurt used the cut up style on this song (where you take random lines from books and stuff and put them together to make a new story or song) so maybe he didn't even know what every line meant. |
