Just read baout this in the PHiSH book last night. Tom (wrote most of the songs) had a brother who was dying of cancer. Him and Trey were at a Dead show and saw a guy there who was on chemo. Most of his hair has fallen out, except for a few fluffs of hair around the back. Tom wrote the song about that, but looking back, said it was really about his brother... |

This song can also describe their jams at the end of most of their songs. They have highs and lows, and just kinda drift..."Floating in the blimp a lot"... |

OK, so getting back to the point of song meanings...um....yeah.....this is one of the first Phish songs I let myself listen to. There were just certain parts of it that resonated with me and I could identify with. The concept of the farmhouse, though, I think comes from when they would rent out a farmhouse in VT to write songs...and not everyone who likes Phish is a hippie....coming from punk roots, I opened myself up to new types of music because, let's face it, bashing on 3 chords gets old real fast... |

Man.....what the hell...Phish is sooooooo much more than drugs. Their fan base was what completely turned me off to them for years. It seemed like people were into them because of drugs. Recently, though, I've started listening to them, and they're all incredible musicians. THAT'S what's important. The music...that's it. Trey has some amazing insights, too, in interviews that can really be used to take any other musician's game to the next level....so I'll say it again, not everything about Phish has to be about drugs... |

I love the fact that the titel is nothing more than the chord progression of the song...sort of...it goes A C D C F A G....they changed it to "bag" for reasons of political correctness..... |

I heard last night on the radio that the song title is a reference to an old movie that George Harrison lended some songs to. It's about a guy who's obsessed with the girl next door, and he cuts holes in his wall to spy on her. It becomes his "Wonderwall"... |

I don't know where you got that from, but to each their own. I look at this like looking back on a relationship gone bad. Sounds like the writer is slowly coming to terms with what the other person put them through. Now, the chorus, on the other hand kinda paints a picture of maybe running into that other person at like a party or something. Something gets said, there's some degree of animosity, but that other person still helps him/her to their car to end the night....
...the Elihu and Lemore thing is totally foreign to me. Best I could dig up is that they're both modern-era philosophers.... |
