as the story goes, satan was cast out of heaven for disobeying or displeasing god. some would say he was cast out b/c he refused to bow before a great power just b/c he is expected to. maybe the song has more to do with rejecting what is suppossedly known and accepted, maybe he's refering metaphorically to an idea he found hiding beneath the stairs, this star remaining out of sight and melting all the walls. but in the end, its still just an idea, "And in the morning there is nothing left But what's inside of me." maybe morningstar is also a metaphor in the same sense, so embrace what isn't commonly accepted, to be the "first to begin their fall" and break the mold. then he asks, can this star be him, can he be the ghost or the idea on the stage that people can identify with and follow in the fall. at the end of the song he seems to pull away from the idea, asking if we would wish upon this falling star, would you be first to fall and walk upon him, "I don't want to die tonight. Will you."? |
