For me, it's more about Jesus' Second Coming and the Apocalypse. The "Beast" refers to the Antichrist and all that strange imagery about witches and dragons is similar to what's said in Revelation. Sufjan (and Christians in general) are longing to see Jesus (the Second Coming) so that could explain the repetition.
The nice thing about Sufjan is that a lot of his more spiritual songs can be interpreted in different ways. That's what spirituality is, after all. The relationship I have with God is different that the relationship my friend has with God. :) |

This is my favourite M83 song. I'm not sure of exact meaning but it seems to be about a nuclear holocaust and the narrator is the last survivor. It's also a bit ironic when he says "God, it's so beautiful" because he's finding beauty in destruction and death.
