| Broken Social Scene – Superconnected Lyrics | 18 years ago |
here's what happened last night: he asked the audience how many had been in love. he said, raise your hands if you've been in love once. then he said, raise your hands if you've been in love more than once. raise your hands if you've been in love more than twice. raise your hands if you've been in love more than three times. raise your hands if you've never been in love. then he said, this is a love song. we can help you if you've never been in love. |

| Wilco – Less Than You Think Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| check the pictchforkmedia review for "a ghost is born." it talks about how jeff tweedy says he wanted to simulate the feeling of his migraines. i really like what sunben said though, and i bet that's part of it too. | |
| Pixies – U-Mass Lyrics | 20 years ago |

| its like the harmonies are inherent | |
| Sufjan Stevens – Casimir Pulaski Day Lyrics | 20 years ago |
it's about the paradox of faith existing in reality. he is not angry with god, he's trying to understand god. hes trying to understand why it is that he loves something that doesn't give him anything tangible, took her away, the different things that God takes and takes and takes. why that is important. its present in almost every song. its why i love sufjan |
| Sufjan Stevens – Chicago Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| thats a kickass assignment, but not really a hard one. it seems that "chicago" is one of the most self-explanatory pieces on "illinois." | |
| Sufjan Stevens – The Transfiguration Lyrics | 20 years ago |
the greatest song on "seven swans." i didn't know he was religious.. i'm pretty happy to find it out reading on here. he has a way of lighting everything up. also. am i the only person who hears both "chicago" and "the predatory wasp of the palisades is out to get us!" in the chorus of this song? i might just be crazy, but i hear it every time i listen to this song. |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Take Me Down Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i almost like it better when james sings, maybe just because of this song. but also in "farewell & goodnight," when they all sing.. i dont know, maybe i just get billy overdose. he gets a little annoying after awhile. | |
| Built to Spill – Fling Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| BUILT TO SPILL IS GOD | |
| Modest Mouse – Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset Lyrics | 20 years ago |
both jordan martin and hamdog have got modest mouse right. i bought "this is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about" on a whim and this song makes me SO GLAD that i bothered to. |
| Modest Mouse – Whenever I Breathe Out, You Breathe In (Positive/Negative) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
i kind of feel like this song is about feeling like someone has taken everything from you. it seems like the narrator is surprised with the state hes in--it seems like this isnt his regular state because he talks about the exact amounts of time that he's felt this way. somebody's taken, or is continuing to take, everything from him in a relationship.. maybe he poured all of his life and his hope into it, he thought it was how things should be forever, and then when it failed, he didnt have anything left to live off of. and everybody who has ever loved knows how that feels. so everybody loves the song. i love the song. theme to breakup, but without a movie fadeout, you know? |
| Modest Mouse – Styrofoam Boots/It's All Nice on Ice, Alright Lyrics | 20 years ago |

| Regina Spektor – Baobabs Lyrics | 20 years ago |
its about the book "the little prince" by antoine de saint-exupery. the prince speaks about how he has baobabs on his planet, and if they get too big they will grow straight through his planet and destroy it. the thorns are a reference to the rose which he loves having thorns which cannot protect her from his sheep. also, he speaks about how his planet is so small that the sun sets and rises many times a day, so he only has to move his chair forward a little bit every few minutes to watch the sunset for an entire day. you should read the book. its incredible. corrections: And I wouldnt raise my child inside the city anyway They grow up too savvy and they grow up too fast. And they know about investment banking and also about brokerage firms And they know about careers and about the real deals And they all grow up and be come people's people with people skills. sweet. its a wonderful song. |

| Ozma – Game Over Lyrics | 20 years ago |
i realized one day that i actually do know how to find extra life times ninety-nine. which made me feel really bad. in Super Mario 64: if you get all 120 stars, a cannon opens up in the front of Peach's castle by the water hole. Get the flying hat, run to the cannon, get in, and fly up to the top of the castle. Yoshi is waiting. He gives you 99 lives if you talk to him and then your ozma dreams are all fulfilled. |
| Ozma – Continental Drift Lyrics | 20 years ago |
actually, i love the lyrics in this song. theyre not, like, the pixies or harry nilsson or anything, but thats whats so incredible about ozma. they didnt have the most deep lyrics.. but they way that they sang, with such passion and truth.. the voices cracking and the half-shouting.. its great stuff. you cant deny that ozma was a such a rad band. crap. that comment was posted almost two years ago. |
| Mirah – We're Both So Sorry Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| i know.. its wonderful. i listened to it on repeat for about five days straight. | |
| Modest Mouse – Perfect Disguise Lyrics | 21 years ago |
also, the lyrics above are incorrect. they are for the bbc version. the real ones are like this: You've got the Perfect disguise and you're lookin’ o.k. From the bottom of the best of the worst, well what can I say Cuz you cocked your head to shoot me down And I don't give a damn about you or this town no more No cuz I know the score Need me to fall down, so you can climb up Some fool ass ladder, well good luck I hope, I hope there's something better up there Cuz you cocked your head to shoot me down And I don't give a damn about you or this town no more No cuz I know the score Broke my back Broke my back |
| Modest Mouse – Perfect Disguise Lyrics | 21 years ago |
isaac brock makes lovely puns. when i first listened to modest mouse i didnt like them as a band. but then again, i was pretty little, so how could i expect myself to have understood how wonderful they are? i dont like his voice on the bbc version either. it makes the sound take on a dimension that it shouldnt. |

| The Mountain Goats – No Children Lyrics | 21 years ago |
i read this interview about the mountain goats and it said that the alpha couple is this alcoholic couple who he wrote several albums from the perspective of. so no, iagoAdmirer, your interpretation is almost the opposite of the song. also, i read that the mountain goats wanted to stop writing about these people, hence the "i hope you die/ i hope you both die".. its not about him as a person. whats remarkable about this song is its accuracy in portraying alcoholism. if you know any alcoholics closely, you know that they like their way of life as much as it kills them to. they are like walking juxtapositions, contradictions, etc. the mountain goats have this imminent doom within each song so reminiscent of addiction and.. oh. god. its brilliant |
| The Mountain Goats – Jenny Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| rock and roll. i love this song | |
| The Mountain Goats – Family Happiness Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| ps. "family happiness" is the name of a short story by leo tolstoy. | |
| The Mountain Goats – Family Happiness Lyrics | 21 years ago |
this was my first mountain goats song.. it convinced me to get a music download thing to try to find more. i dont agree with harvestgloom, though. this is about being in love with someone. its about when you realize that theyre incredibly selfish, they dont really love you. or they did once, and its gone. and you wish to god it would come back, but something has changed and its awful, and theres no way you can get out. |
| The Mountain Goats – The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton Lyrics | 21 years ago |

| Neutral Milk Hotel – Two-Headed Boy Pt. 2 Lyrics | 21 years ago |
neutral milk hotel is fascinating. ive read all these comments and its.. gah. its so ironic that so many people are occupied, or obsessed, with understanding jeff mangum and his genius, while hes "obsessed" with anne frank. i think that the only thing we can get out of these discussions of lyrics is what you can get out of walking up real close to a painting.. the colors and the texture and the care all fill in. but what this song, or any nmh song, means to you is unique to you. it will never mean one thing to thousands of people, like music on the radio does. jeff mangum puts everything he has into his songs and because of that we put ourselves into them too. its what honesty does in a world like this. |
