My Chemical Romance – Thank You For The Venom Lyrics 19 years ago
our.lady.of.sorrows, thank you for pointing that out. I mentioned the Morrisey song on this string a while ago.

It's very difficult to ignore the obvious reference-

"Sister, I'm a poet"
"Sister, I'm not much a poet"

Da?

But the song "Sister, I'm a Poet" is about Morrisey's blatant homosexuality. Everyone seems to be missing this point; Gerard is making a clear reference to a song about being gay, and then writes oodles of metaphors... about being gay. All in one song.

The first verse alone...

"Love it or leave it, you can't understand"

Come on. The entire song is about people trying to cure a "disease" and he's saying it's something they can't fix.

There you go, the epitime of "gay" misjudgements: the homosexuality disease. For you homophobic MCR fans, I'm not even saying he's gay, I'm just saying he's writing from the perspective of a gay man.

It's hard to argue against it, because it makes sense.

Everclear – Sparkle Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is about Kurt Cobain. When Everclear was first showing up, there was a lot of talk about Art being the "new Kurt Cobain." The music had a similar grungy sound. Art wasn't happy about this, because he felt that Nirvana was sell-outs. Also, I'm sure Art had some issues with Kurt's drug use, considering Art's history. As for the song itself, it shows in most of the lines:

"I remember when you seemed real shiny with the sweat of your voice
Shaky hands super loud and teenage mouth"
"The belly fire pulls the spirit from the corporate whore
I'm embarrassed by the plaid you wear
If I were you I'd hide behind that stupid bleach blonde hair"

These parts describe Kurt. He had the blonde hair, he yelled, he was young, and he wore the definitive grunge clothing: plaid shirt, tied around the waist.

"Now I've got no place to go, I've got no place to go
I've got no one, nowhere, no one"

These lines are about how this was how Art was always described, and how it seemed like that was all he ever heard.

Anyone who plays guitar probably loves this song, because it's so much fun to play.

Oh, zsandoz, I didn't even realize you already mentioned the song. Glad someone else noticed the parallel.

Does anyone else think this song references Morrissey?
Morrisey wrote a song called "Sister, I'm a Poet" which immediately makes one think of the first line of this song. The song was pretty clearly about being gay, so it leads you to wonder...
I know it's a little obscure, but if you keep that in mind, and read the lyrics...

All the lyrics figuratively represent being ostracized because of homosexuality, or the fact that it's not something that can be "cured" like some people think.

"So give me all you poison
And give me all your pills"
-represents healing, or fixing problems

"You're running after something
That you'll never kill"
-saying that it's not something that you can just fix

Preach all you want but who's gonna save me?
-etc.

So, I think this song is about being gay. Whether he is or not, I can't say.

(Although, he does... umm... pretty much make out and stuff with Burt Mccracken on stage when they perform together)
Haha, Burt Mccracken. What a funny name.

Awesome song by the way. The guitar is genius.

Eminem – Hailie's Song Lyrics 21 years ago
I've always liked Eminem's music, but i got a lot of respect for him from this song. It's great that his daughter is pretty much the most important thing in the world to him. Amazing.

Eminem – Kim Lyrics 21 years ago
this song is cool... it's one of my favorites by eminem. does anyone know why kim sued Em for this song, but not 97' bonnie and clide? pretty much the same idea in each song.
TransparentSunChild: If you're white, you're generally retarded. And perhaps you haven't heard about Abraham Lincoln or Martin Luther King, Jr., but niggers isn't the right word anymore.
If your black, you're just dumb. Not many people have even talked like that, and you can't just assume they're white anyway.

Nine Inch Nails – Piggy Lyrics 21 years ago
am i the only one who thinks that this is the saddest song in existance? not for the lyrics, but for the way trent sings them and the music. this song has a lot of personal history to me, but it still is extremely depressing, even without a backstory. every time i listen to it, if i'm at all in a bad mood i think about suicide, or falling back into other habits. i don't mean to bring down the mood of the forum, but i'm just saying my views.

I really like the numpty's analysis.
Even though it doesn't have any *audible lyrics, I think this is the saddest song on the album, next to Piggy.

A Perfect Circle – Diary Of A Madman / Lovesong Lyrics 21 years ago
Raziel, you are a dumbass. And yes, I know that his thing was posted almost three years ago. But still.
This song comes off to me as someone being too weak to end a bad relationship. Afraid to be alone. Simple as that. Plus, the line "However far away" is replaced by "Sanity now and beyond me." If the singer did manage to get away from his partner for enough time, he would realize he didn't want her. And because of that replacement, "However long I stay" seems more like he's saying that no matter how long he takes this girl's crap, he can't pull himself away.

"I will always love you.
There's no choice.
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I'm hopeless"

I love the Cure (Last Day of Summer is one of the best songs ever written), and I haven't listened to much Ozzy but I like what I've heard. Has anyone else ever blended two songs together as a cover like this? If anyone knows any good ones, I'd like to hear them.

APC is just so damn good. This song is perfect, even if the only available version is live. Maynard is one of the few singers who actually sounds as good live as in a studio-recorded track.

A Perfect Circle – Sleeping Beauty Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song is about a guy who's in love with his girlfriend, and thinks that she feels the same. The problem is that she is depressed, suicidal, or has some other personal obstacle. Since the guy so strongly believes that he is the most important thing in the world to his girlfriend, he's confident that he can rescue her. But regardless of how she feels about him, he can't seem to change anything. This song is him realizing that he isn't nearly as powerful as he thought. Discouraged and pained, he feels like she doesn't care at all, even though it may not be true.
"Far too poisoned for me, such a fool to think that I could
Wake you from your slumber, that I could actually heal you"

Definitely one of the best songs on this album. This, Brena, and The Rose.
