| Manic Street Preachers – Nat West-Barclays-Midlands-Lloyds Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Possibly the Manics' most overtly pro-Halifax song. In order to keep track of aquisitions and mergers within the financial sector, the track was recently renamed "Royal Bank of Scotland-Barclays-HSBC-Lloyds TSB". |

| Electric Six – Be Afraid Of The Robot Lyrics | 21 years ago |

My suspicion: robot = lead singer's penis. Also, I was going to query "badgers" in the opening lyric - I had always assumed the phrase was "bad girls" - but now I think about it, "badgers" makes so much more sense. |

| Roxy Music – Virginia Plain Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Oh, God knows. The last two words are about cigarettes. That much is clear. And words 17-19 are about generals in the American Civil War. The end of verse four contains some cutting satire about conformity in flamingo society. Um. Basically, all the words mean something. It's just the order they're put into that is less clear. I suspect the idea was for it work on a non-rational level, and it acheives that marvelously; furthermore, Manzanera's solo sounds like he's strangling his guitar with an ostrich, which is sublime. It's almost certainly about Glamour, of some form. |

To quote Mr. Anderson, "This is a song about gay anal sex." I find it hard to disagree with him. |

| At a guess... heroin? | |
| Queens of the Stone Age – Feel Good Hit Of The Summer Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I must admit, I am somewhat puzzled by the lyrics of this song. The subject matter seems extremely vague, the message unclear. What can they be trying to say? I think I detect elements of Kierkegaard, and some evocative allusions to the closing passage of James Joyce's masterful short story 'The Dead', but beyond these trivial points the central thesis of the song escapes me. | |
| Suede – Animal Lover Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| As I heard it, this was about the time Frischmann was seeing both Anderson and Albarn at the same time, on and off. Apparently the two would send each other "messages", in an attempt at one-upmanship, in the form of bites and scratches on Frishcmann's body... | |
