I think this song is from the POV of someone who is already dead, and speaking back to their survivors not to worry about them. |

I love this song. it's about being yourself and not who people push you to be. and by being yourself you show others they can be themselves too and that being different is a good thing. |

This is one of my favorite rocker songs from r.e.m. I'm completely clueless on meaning, and totally content to enjoy it that way. |

I have to say that I really love r.e.m., but this has got to be my least favorite song they ever did. it's overplayed, gratingly repetitive, and I can't even listen to it long enough to give it any meaning. it's almost like it was an obligatory filler song or something. |

The beginning of this song reminds me of coming out of my apartment the morning after a hurricane came through. At first in that early morning light it was quiet and few people were out looking at the damage. it didn't take long for the chaos to set in - no electricity, which meant no showers, no food, no ice. Which pretty much led to short tempers and a lot of unhappiness. We were scheduled to go to the beach that weekend, which had been unaffected. What did we decide to do? Leave. :) |

At first I thought this song was about a hijacker. now I think it's about the mundaneness of business travel, and meaningless corporate america. |

This song reminds me of the Eagles' song the Last Resort - about discovering the western frontier and exploiting it. New adventures in HIFI is one of my favorite r.e.m. albums. I agree about the End of the world commentary. There are so many more thought provoking songs to choose from. |

I think it's about fame - eyes burning holes through me is everyone recognizing you on the street. it's also a criticism of old moldy film making and it's outdated politics and networks, maybe to give the newbies a chance, and a loose reference to the information age enabling anyone to make a film? Sort of a twist on Warhol's 15 minutes of fame. |

This song is profoundly depressing - it's about a woman who kills herself and her child by jumping out the window. It's in reaction to a world she perceives as going down the drain. |

I think this song is about the deterioration of quality in architectural design. The glamourization of high rise real estate(buy the sky sell the sky), and lack of mixed use planning in cities (found a way to talk around the problem, foresight isn't anything at all). |
