If my Dante serves me correct, the Gates of Thanos are the gates upon the entrance to Hell. Thanos being the upper portion and Dis being the lower portion. Which a suicide would then proceed into the wood of the suicides in Dis.
this song is the final acceptance by others that Julio is dead, and the abrupteness of the ending is the shutting of the coffin. |

Maybe a different angle:
The submarine trapping is metaphor for being stuck to the hospital bed. After finally, freeing himself, seeing all the other patients of every race and body type. The whole comatose state is the mental journey to the bridge and the final decision to snuff it, masked under hallucinations. |

This bears no relevance to this song in particular, but it does to AFI... Does anyone know about the song "Jade Song"? I don't know if there's a name for it, but that's what I downloaded it as. I don't know if it is AFI, or if it may be one of Jade's previous bands, or what. I've never heard anyone ever mention it on anything about AFI. |

Thanks to www.her-song.net, I've found out that this song is about one of Aimee Echo's friend's who had a nighttime drug problem. This supposedly came from Echo's mouth herself, but I don't know the validity of the statement. |
