It's funny how no one has been able to refute my arguments, they simply ignore them and come up with a hogwash meaning.

Dashboard Confessional – I Need a Sure Thing Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is about the demons of the night, vampyres. Throughout the centuries these creatures have inspired nightmares, stories, and now thanks to dashboard, songs.

One of the deepest mysteries in the world, vampyres are shrouded in the night, and as announced by dashboard, a mystery to them, and indeed everyone. For they are secretive and go unnoticed in our familiar world of mortals and daily tasks. From the opening line about razor blades, a nod towards the sharp fanged family of foes within the human sapien species, to the chrous involving the burning stake, a particular adept way of disposing of these enemies of the light.

I thank dashboard for finally catering a song towards these denizens. As detestable as they may be within our hierarchical structure, they are citizens nonetheless, and I am glad dashboard has recognized this. Thank you dashboard!

What proof do you have of that bnlcraze? I have a well documented story that was reported in "Rolling Stone" in the july issue of 2002, where do your "facts" come from?

Eminem – Big Weenie Lyrics 21 years ago
Vegetaz, it is entirely possible for someone to be gay and have daughters. For a very recent example, you could take the previous governor of new jersey. Often times, people realize their true sexual identity as time goes by. In eminem's case, expounding lyrical incredibilities I believe has enlightened him, and he has discovered his true self. However, I don't think he's gay, that is the jung guy's opinion, and he's a complete psychopath. I'd also have to agree with your astute analysis of the interview, thank you for shedding a flashlight of verity down the tunnel of deceit.

How is talking about benzino and ja rule not a small issue? Two people is a small issue, especially two as inconsequential as those two. While the normal riff-raff spin around their egocentric equators, eminem is concentrating on space flight and orbiting beyond the simple issues of small-minded individuals.

If you fail to notice the multi-syllables in this song, then you obviously need to achieve a degree in something, anything, maybe even a high-school degree. While the content may be demeaning, the words are eloquently spoken with the fine finesse that only eminem can muster. He is not attempting to slap the faces of those who deconstruct his songs, but were that the case, we would all be victims. And as far as I know, the nazis never ate placentas, unless you have some inside knowledge.

I see that SNMMM would refer to respond to a drivelling urine-licker than an actual intelligent and fact-based response. Nice dodge.

It's probably directed at placenta-eating nitwits that fail horribly at trying to determine the meanings of his songs by reducing them to a simplistic miasma of revenge.

If you mean the shell of freudian derivation, then I would agree that most of us have a shell. If not of that type, then the jungian nature could be invoked, I suppose. I have no doubt that eminem has a shell of this level, of some sort, but I don't think that he would deliver it into song form. Generally, according to the original freudian definition of shell-defined forms, one who possesses such a shell would not expose it to the world. Exposing it to the world would not only in his case be detrimental because it juxtaposes against his image, but also brings the flaws of the shell into the direct vision of the public . You are certainly entitled to have your own opinion, but I think you should think on this song a little more. Your derivation of its meaning is juvenille and perhaps could use some sentiments of refinement.

Barenaked Ladies – A Lyrics 21 years ago
You are quite wrong snm. Your first point is completely irrelevant. If we were to say that whichever came first was the best, than twisted sister would be better than an awful lot of groups, and they are definitely towards the bottom. The simple fact that Mr. Creeggan the first taught Ringo his first guitar lick is irrevocable evidence that the beatles were influenced by the barenaked ladies, albeit in an indirect form. The musical talent of Creeggan's father (and some of the other band members) is releashed with violence in all of their progeny's music, striking down the enemies of good taste with unrelenting waves of near-apocalyptic level style.

Your second point is well made, but only if you ignore the root of the barenaked ladies name. It actually comes from one main story about the drummer's brother. Back in the day when they all used to smoke a bunch of doobies, his brother Barrie (spelled funny, but blame his parents) took a hit of some weird stuff. Anyhow, by the end of the night they had convinced him to run down the street naked. "They" being the rest of the band, since they used to be friends. Anyhow, this happened at about the time they were in high school, and were Lad's. Hence, if you rearrange the name, you have "Barrie Naked Lad" which is really a close anagram of Barenaked ladies. Pretty neat, right? Certainly equivalent to the beatles. This also makes your third point moot.

The beatles might have lots of songs, but most of them are pretty miserable. Strawberry fields forever? What kind of hogwash is that? Anyhow, they certainly have not written anything approaching the delicious representation of lyrically astounding and stupendously invitingly tongued guitar licks, coupled with phenomenal earth-shattering drum rolls, delivered as an undertone to the finely delivered lyrics meant to bring the listener into a state of euphoric rapture. Name one beatles song the equivalent of this one!

This song is quite obviously about the beginning of time. The hidden undertones are forged in the subtext of the letter chosen as the zenith of the song. A is for the alpha, which in the bible is the beginning, with omega being at the end. The rest of the song is about what comes after the beginning, thanks to it. Had the world not been started, many things would not have come to pass. Some of them are good, some of them bad, but they all started in the beginning, with alpha. There are also those things that are good and bad, like "the lovable drunk".

"A is for angry, which is what you are at me"

A bad thing.

"A is for adult, which is what I'll never be"

Adult is a good thing, but he won't be it so it's a bad thing. This one is ambiguous.

"A is for applesauce, my favorite meal"

A good thing.

"A is for Adam, which is how I sometimes feel; "

This one is interesting. It's bad and it's good, because Adam was the first man which is absolutely smashing! However, Adam also was lured to commit a sin by Eve, so that is bad. This is another ambiguous one, and it also points towards A as in the alpha. A stands for alpha, but also for adam, who was the alpha male, and whose name starts with adam.

The song of course talks about relationships and what not, but it is definitely framed within the architectural context of alpha and omega. Relationships are in a way a representative of that duality, as all relationships have a beginning and end! This symbolism is amazing, and the barenaked ladies, as per simpg's suggestion, are certainly approaching the level of the beatles. I don't know if they will surpass them in 1 1/2 years, but they very well might eventually. With this kind of in-depth mineral wealth of creative assertion, the barenaked ladies have proven themselves A-Awesome.

This song bathes in metaphors, and comes out clean as a whistle. It drips finely formed similes onto the floor, allowing them to flow towards the drain and mingle with allusions. The towel of hyperbole wraps around it, completing the metaphorphasizing process, an absolutely fantastic song that will live on forever as one of the greats.

Modest Mouse – Nothing New Lyrics 21 years ago
While I agree that modest mouse was heavily into quantuam mechanics before they sold out, I don't think that this song was particularly about it. I think that perhaps, since brock read a lot about string theory as a youngster, that it might have influenced his art significantly. Specifically, when you listen to most of their songs, you can sense the 7-dimensionality aspect of the music. They are not simply songs, but representatives of our strangely formed universe that stretches towards oblivion in more dimensions than we can possibly conceive. However, while the music is composed of well-formed strings being played on strings (and drums), the lyrics I believe are composed of a more elementary nature, and are addressing the response of his mother to his more simplistic art as a child. Modest mouse might name a song about relativity "nothing", but the addition of the "new" sort of pokes a hole in your thought process. Since nothing is simply nothing, one can not discover new nothing. New nothings are the same as old nothings, and are composed of the exact same substance as the old nothings. Even if you found new nothings, they would not be new because they always existed, just like the old nothings. Since modest mouse understands this so well, they would not have intentionally led the listener astray by adding the "new" to their title.

I think that you are wrong, as well snmmm, not only about your interpretation but of your extrapolation. Since modest mouse are extremely intelligent and well-read, they would know that the bible has in fact changed as the years have gone by. Its original enscription is the subject of controversy in its hebrew language, and different parts of the bible have some arguments over them there. Once it is interpreted, especially into english, many of the meanings have changed dramatically. That is why there are so many translations, and the translations change once in awhile. I remember in an interview that brock said none of them were jewish and don't know hebrew, so they would be used to the translations such as the "king james" or "new living". Your interpretation is very jungian in nature, and a little off the wall. I think you have juped off the ship of reality into the sea of jupian jismo's jiant jail.

Indefeat and arewenelle, you two are incredibly offbase. Eminem is not about small issues and nitpicking insults. You can tell from songs like "white america" and "mosh" that eminem is about big issues, not little ones. While he might stoop to name-calling in interviews and personal conversations, his songs are meant to be about larger things.

I can't believe you would believe that eminem actually cares what other people think of him. He is above that, and is a man with a message. You two are even farther out than that jung whackjob.

Modest Mouse – Nothing New Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is pretty difficult to interpret, but I think it all boils down to the abuse that Brock suffered as child. Let me explain.

"i never even flipped right through it
so what'cha gonna do with
all this stuff thats scribbled to it
you say "theres nothin new"
and oh my god that might be true
but what'cha think youre gonna do"

Lets break this down line by line, as I think this is pretty much the core of the song as it is repeated constantly. I believe the scribbling was in reference to all of those drawings that kids do as a child, and his mother constantly insulting him for it. He would go home every night from school, and bring his mom a stack of artwork. Later, he'd ask her what she thought, and she'd reply "I never flipped through it." See? In response to that dialogue, Brock would ask "Whachha gonna do with it mom? With all this stuff scribbled to it?" (you can also see the infantile dialogue being used). His mom, obviously annoyed because he KEEPS bringing her loads of artwork would reply "There's nothing new!" Brock thought to himself about the unoriginality of his work, and realized with horror, nightly, that his bored expressionism replicated with pens, crayons, and pencils upon paper was redundant. Nonchalantly, and with the curiosity only children can render, he of course has to reply with "But yeah, whaccha think you're going to do with it?"

I think this constant negative and abusive dialogue probably pushed him to create new original art. It might even be responsible for him branching into the music industry to create new masterpieces to present to his mother. I'm glad she was so harsh on him, look at where modest mouse is now!

The only thing logical about it is your insanity. Look, I could string together any argument using your "logic". First, I'll prove your stupidity, then I'll prove my definition of the song.

Jung = Funny Name
Funny Name = Stupid Name
Stupid Name = simpg

Therefore, simpg is stupid. And now for the song.

Big Weenie = Insulter
Insulter = Verbal Abuser
Verbal Abuser = Someone with vocal chords
Someone with vocal chords = Almost anyone
Almost anyone = Mom and many others who insult
Mom and many others who insult = Big Weenie.

Please take your flawed phallacies further away. This forum is for well-informed opinions on equally intellectual lyrics generated relevantly by rhyme-busting and riddling writer eminem. I look forward to a logical, linguistical, LUCID debate in the future, as I may be wrong. However, invoking illegitimate ideas for hypothesis backing is foolhardy, flippant, and a flagrant abuse of your oppositions intellectual ability.

simpg, where did you get that from? It sounds like a pretty amusing interview. I can't believe Dick Clarke interviewed him, that's awesome and a true testament to the universitality of eminem's music.

I still don't think that's what this song is about though. Just because he mentions his adoration of masturbation in an interview doesn't mean that is what this song is about. If you read the song lyrics, which you obviously haven't, you will see that he is talking about "big weenie" as an insult, not as a physical member.

The true nature of this song is rooted squarely within his subconcious brought about by his upbringing that was riddled with prepubescent vocal exploitation by his family unit, namely his mother. If you truly wanted to bring his johnson into it, I think you'd have to at least steer your donnybrook towards an oedipus-like metaphorical analogy, where his mother is the abuser and yet he still feels sexually for her due to the progeny bond. I might be willing to accept that argument, but mainly I resolve that this song is insulting his mother for her abuse towards him as a child.

I don't think that's right SNMMM. Maybe if he had a father figure growing up it would be more applicable in terms of sexual abuse, but I am pretty sure that this is not what this song is about. That is not to say that eminem is strictly heterosexual, and I happen to think that his homophobic lyrics are a sign of his inward leanings toward the gay lifestyle.

I don't think that your interpretations hold any merit, as they are mostly singling out certain words and creating a made up meaning behind them. I maintain that this song is clearly about abuse.

I hate to disagree simpg, but I really don't think that's correct. I've also searched for that interview with Dick Clark and I can't find it anywhere. Can you post a link to it?

Anyhow, I'm pretty sure the song is about the abuse that eminem suffered under his mother as child. I can empathize and if I could write as eloquently as eminem, it would be a good way to exterminate the bruises that children such as myself acquire from their elders.

Read the chorus. You can tell that he was upset about his mom constantly making fun of him and insulting him, degrading him, forcing him into the ground with her verbal assault. Her persistent pickiness, throttling of his morality, and degradation of his humanistic expansion is deplorable, and I applaud eminem for speaking out on this issue and many others. I am glad that he has challenged the "Big Weenies" everywhere, and hopefully someday the abuse will stop.
