| The Promise Ring – B Is for Bethlehem Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
|
there is actually a childrens book called B is For Bethlehem, it was published way before this song was written and I expect Davey got the idea for the song from it. I have also heard that the bit "my bends bend my anchor" is actually a misheard lyric and the real lyric is "my band defend my anger" but i don't know. These first two LPs were so good, shame they never made anything as good after. I suppose boys+girls is alright, I love the split with TITR most. |

I love this song at the moment, i can't believe it's uncommented, I'm not sure what the title means or the song in relation to that. It's a good song though. Maybe it's about a guy? |

the real irony is how pathetically cliched this song has made these three philosophers amongst pseudo intellectual.
I think what he was trying to say is that people say things they don't mean or really understand just to look hip or intelligent but infact there's no difference between them and the people who really do know about it, it's all just hair splitting elitist patheticism. |

| Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly – Whitewash Is Brainwash Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
|
it's about three things really firstly the way that everyone is buying generic, cheap furniture which proceeds to a growing corporation and leads to everyone having the same supposedly "stylish" furniture but it creates a total lack of individuality. it's about big brother and why people would rather watch 12 people they have never heard of and don't know playing up to the cameras than actually find out what's going on in the world. He just asks the question, doesn't give us his answer except for that it's stupid. He also talks about how the media makes love seem attractive so they can make money from people buying gifts because that's what people now constitute as love i.e "i love you, here's the ring you wanted!" saying love has been killed by the want of material goods. This links to the Ikea thing because it shows how style and individuality has been killed by affordability and everyone conforming to what is supposed to be life changing and brilliant. |

| Jimmy Eat World – A Praise Chorus Lyrics

"Crimson and clover
over and over
crimson and clover
over and over
our house in the
middle of the street
why did we ever meet?
started my rock 'n roll fantasy
don't don't, don't let's start
why did we ever part?
kick start my rock 'n rollin' heart"
it's a reference to a few different songs and artists -
Crimsons and Clover, Over and Over - is from a song by The Shondells.
Our House In The Middle Of The Street - is from a song by Madness
Why Did We Ever Meet - a reference to the promise ring song "Why Did Ever We Meet?"
Rock N Roll Fantasy is a song by Bad Company which has been covered numerous times
Kickstart my heart is a Motley Crue song but My Rock and Rollin Heart is a song by Eric Clapton
the bit "Come on Davey sing me something that I know" is a little nod to Promise Ring singer and one time Cap'n Jazz guitarist Davey Van Bohlen, Jimmy Eat World used to support The Promise Ring back in the 90s before they got real famous.
This song is easily their best in recent years. |

| Texas Is The Reason – There's No Way I Can Talk Myself Out Of This One Tonite (The Drinking Song) Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
Some of the guys were in Shelter and 108 before TITR which in case you don't know were Krishna-core bands but they actually formed Texas is The Reason to break away from religous preaching, I think you can interpret the song as you wish, it's not exactly as if they are saying it's literal, it could just be a hypothetical situation about someone else or even a metaphor, besides as far as i know Garret, the singer, wasn't hare krishna or edge or anything else so he can sing about what he wants I guess?
onto the actual meaning it's just a song about being obsessed with one thing for a long time and not being able to let go, always having to go back for more like the line "every one is my last..." which is like when u say "o.k! last chocolate!" and then just have one more and one more etc etc. I suppose it could be interpreted as alcohol addiction but more likely a girl he was in love with and uses the alcohol like a metaphor i.e he needs it and he needs her, she is the song he's been singing for too long. that's my take on it i guess. my favourite song is blue boy off the split with TPR it's amazing.
and FINALLY all you kids saying "i am so glad no-one knows about TITR!" you weren't even walking when they were together so shut up. Plus being individual is about liking things because you think they are good NOT because everyone likes it. Being individual is NOT about disliking things just because everyone else likes it. Just use your own mind and do your own thing it's pathetic to not like a band because you're scared of them becoming, dare i say it, "cool" and because you are such a big individual you just couldn't bare to listen to a "popular" band. |

| John Martyn – May You Never Lyrics

This song is allegedly about a journalist (I can't mention names) who John was great friends with. The pair apparently were in a bar one night when John struck a man who had been sleeping with John's wife and the journalist had to pull John off of the man and diffuse the situation. So the song is essentialy about good friendships and knowing where the line is in terms of keeping your cool etc. I love the song! |

in relation to MORETHANSAMs comment I think it's quite obvious that this song is about signing to a major record label and nothing to do with money or song writing?! The way they write their songs has nothing to do with selling out, the style hasn't changed since "Reset" which came out before they signed to Eulogy anyway. Everyone is like "oooh a pirate theme, must be the record label" well maybe they like Pirates, you don't fucking know them?! AND TBH it's not really a pirate theme is it, it's about mutiny which is a word which means to fuck the authorities and start your own leadership. Eulogy isn't a huge label at all, infact it's smaller than alot of so called indie labels i.e Victory and Trustkill which bands like Terror and Earth Crisis are signed to. It might be about pete wentz but I'm sure he could care less. |

fall out boy still make good music though, so what if they have sold out? if you listened to their lyrics you would realise that they totally slam all their new fans and record label on at least 5 songs on the latest album calling them all "bandwagon jumpers" and "myspace whores" and I challenge you to find a quote from any member of fall out boy saying they never wanted to be on MTV.
And in relation to MORETHANSAMs comment I think it's quite obvious that this song is about signing to a major record label and nothing to do with money or song writing?! |

| Fall Out Boy – This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|

oh and by the way the song is the same as "Our lawyer made us change the name of this song so we wouldn't get sued". The title refers to the whole fiasco about pete's cock being shown on the internet and the tabloid shit. The song is about how it's not a music scene it's just a fashion parade. Look at lines like "At night we're painting your trash gold, while you sleep" refers to the fact that they can make kids believe in themselves and that this song is dedicated to the kids who still believe in the healing powers of music. it's pretty standard F.O.B - and in a phrase "it's a song for the true fans" |

as far as i can see pretty much any song by fall out boy gets two serious responses and then about a thousand 11 year olds bitching about how shit this song is compared to a song that Pete wrote when they were still listening to Balamory tapes and sucking their moms tits. Am I right? |

| Native Nod – Back to Mimsey Lyrics
|
Morning breaks after a
long, hot summer night,
spent on our cabin floor,
spoiling the sacred peace.
The sun filters through the windows
like swords ripping through his flesh
in a frenzy. He vainly attempts to hold
back the demons holding him back, but perhaps it's too late,
because his friends have already fled the cabin, leaving him little time
to react for he hears children's voices on the hills in the forest approaching
quickly. So he answers with regret as he's done before and he'll do forever.
His discomfort soon wears off upon the realization that this can't exist.
freind you owe it you yourself and your family to leave this congested city. Everyone of you undoubtedly has a headache. |
