It's very important to remember that all the songs on SGT Pepper are written from the perspective of Paul and John's alteregos (the sgt pepper band members). So it's not John or Paul or George who's is fixing a hole it's one of the members of the imaginary Sgt Peppers band. I don't think it's about drugs, I always thought about it as one of those parody songs from a musical and that it's about the dullness of english family life |

I think you guys missed the essential point of the song which is that it's the fulfillment of boys dream, years after the fact. That is why it's sentimental and romantic. It's not about that teenage state of mind it's about the teenage dream. I also wonder if this song was the inspiration for the movie Crash or if it's based on some other poem about people who wake up when they crash into each other. |

It's about how he doesn't belong in a stable and safe family lifestyle because he is not that kind of guy. The lyrics to this song is unconcentrated, not that focused. If you know what I mean. It's about the fact that it's easier to adapt to the system and live with the conventions....but if there's another way he'll try it. Then it's also about how politicians love to talk about peace and sell themselves to the public but in reality peace doesn't matters. What matters in politics in power and money. |

There's one important issue with song. I'm sure about this line: "'cause You know just how far the east is from the west From one scarred hand to the other" I don't know if they're talking about the difference between praying and not praying(putting your hands toghether, your hands are as far away from each other as east from west) OR if they're talking about the distance between jesus hands on the cross(boths his hands are obviously scarred). |

I figure this song is about the turning point in your life. Not suicide or the point of no return. This is what I figure: "The shadow of the day will paint the world in grey" - Your current problems and troubles will overshadow everthing and it will seem like there is no hope. "and the sun will set for you" - And hope is on the way The first verse is about isolation. He is turning away from the world. The second verse is about the people that care for him but still he is walking away from them. He is saying that a new start is the only way. |

I think the chorus is about wanting to get high. To be everything and to have everything is to get high. "If i had everything would i Still wanna be alive? Oh wanna be high" - kind of like, is it worth doing anything at all other then getting high. Two things... 1. A religious/christian song wouldn't feat. a line like "For every sign I recognize Another one escapes me", so to me it's obviously a love song. 2. If you think this song sound like U2 you need to go and listen to some U2...it sounds more like a mix of Hoobastank and Goo Goo Dolls...nice try to give the band credit for something they haven't achieved. |

What really confused me was the video. In the video everything is fine as long as everyone stays on their knees. Once they get up off their knees everything is falling apart. In the song he sings please get up off you knees - which could easily be intepreted as think for yourself and don't just rely on the tradition/religion. It's just that it doesnt match with the video. Can anyone explain? |
