Manic Street Preachers – Yes Lyrics 19 years ago
sprocket: It's not a true story; it was used as an example in a psychology book, and wasn't meant to be a euphemism in the original context. Though it may have been in this song.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Me and Mia Lyrics 20 years ago
“anathony”, I have some questions for you. What do you mean when you say, “But would an annorexic guy not know how to loose weight the fastest?” I’m a little confused about that statement. And although I completely agree with you when you say the sleep deprivation is because of worry about eating, I think the line about not being able to sleep could also be a reference to the chemical imbalance that causes insomnia in a lot of people with eating disorders.

Well, no offense to Fevers et Mirrors, but Fionar2001 was dead on. Good for her for seeing all of that and taking the time to write it all out.

Manic Street Preachers – 1985 Lyrics 21 years ago
I was born in 1985 too. :) I love the video for this - it's my favorite, so far, out of the others I've seen. I'm not too too crazy about the song itself.. I do prefer their older music, but I'm not saying I don't like this newer stuff as well.

Manic Street Preachers – Yes Lyrics 21 years ago
I've heard that story, and I also wondered if it was true. What I read was that kids kept playing near the cliff and falling off, and the town decided that putting up a fence would be too expensive, so instead they'd put an ambulance at the bottom. So it was like just waiting for people to get hurt, instead of doing something to prevent it. Pretty sick.

Manic Street Preachers – Yourself Lyrics 21 years ago
Pretty straightforward, I think. This song is one of my favorites, I wish that MSP still wrote songs of this style.

matt675, you've got it completely right [in my opinion]. While the song is quite obviously about prostitution, I've read in a lot of places that this could also be about Richey's inability to say yes.

"I eat and I dress and I wash and I can still say thank you
puking - shaking - sinking I still stand for old ladies
can't shout, can't scream, hurt myself to get pain out "

To me, that whole part is an example of that.

The entire thing is about her. Sylvia Plath is the "girl who wanted to be God".

Manic Street Preachers – Roses In The Hospital Lyrics 21 years ago
Gorgeous song, it's one of my favorites. I can never get enough of it, both the lyrics and the melody always pull me in. The lyrics are haunting and depressing, but in a beautiful way.. I agree with Vanadis's interpretation of them.

I'm American, and I agree with all of this. America's gone to hell and I'm even ashamed to admit that I live here. I love this song, anti-America or not. The lyrics are brilliant, and I love the tune.

Yeah, it's sort of putting down motown groups. Hence the title "Motown Junk". :)

Manic Street Preachers – La Tristesse Durera (Scream To A Sigh) Lyrics 21 years ago
The title, as said above, means "The sadness continues". And it has to with Van Gogh because "La Tristesse Durera" was a sentence from his suicide note. The song is not ABOUT Van Goh, but it "La Tristesse Durera" is his quote.

Manic Street Preachers – Black Dog on My Shoulder Lyrics 21 years ago
I'm the first one to comment? Cool. I love this song. :)

The first time I heard this and read the lyrics, I thought it was stupid, and one of the Manics' worst pieces. I liked the tune, but at the time, the lyrics meant nothing to me. Then I read in an interview/article somewhere that Winston Churchhill called his depression a "black dog", and that's where the song title came from. Now I feel dumb for not looking deeper into it, as the Manics almost always have a deeper, sometimes implied, meaning.
