| Shirley Manson – In the Snow [Writing Demo] Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Great song! I hope it makes it to Shirley's solo album. I think the lyrics are self-explanatory. She's with a man who is obviously an alcoholic and quite possibly cheating on her, but she'd rather have that than be alone. |

| Tia Carrere – Ballroom Blitz Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I actually like this version better than the original...and it puts the other covers to shame. | |
| Pink – Love Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Sorry for the double post. Forgot to mention something.... Even though I know Pink will never read this i'm going to say it anyway: in the darkest time in my life, when everything was falling apart and I felt like I was falling into a bottomless pit, simply reading the lyrics to this amazing song made me realize just how fortunate I really was (and still am). After all of that darkness, this song reminded me that I still had a luxury far too many people aren't fortunate enough to have: Someone who loves me and sticks by me through the good times and the bad. Thank you for reminding me, Pink. You'll probably never know, but you really helped someone (and i'm sure many others) with this song. |

I feel terrible for not giving "Try This" a chance. Not her best album, but with songs like this....VERY UNDERRATED ALBUM! Great closing track. |
|
| Pink – It's All Your Fault Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song sounds to me like she's basically saying "I'm in love with you and I always will be, but for whatever reason you just don't make feel the same way you used to...but i'm going to hold off on leaving you in the hopes that those old sparks start flying again...but I can't wait forever." She's saying it's "All his fault" because he's not the same person anymore. That doesn't necessarily mean he's become a "bad" person...just that she feels like he's changed. | |
| Pink – Bad Influence Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Wouldn't surprise me one bit if this becomes the third single. It's a fun party song. |
|
| Garbage – Betcha Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Craziest Garbage B-Side ever...the irony in this song is that although it is so obviously mocking "Don'cha" I think it would have been a hit had it been released as a single. | |
| Garbage – Nobody Can Win Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
^^^ I disagree. This sounds to me like Shirley is talking about how she got her hopes up about so many things in her life only to be disappointed. I think the message of this song is a nutshell is "Hope for the best but prepare for the worst"...not the other way around. |
|
| Garbage – Happy Home Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This was the PERFECT closing track for the BLM album. So amazing. | |
| Garbage – Honeybee Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| The first poster had it right. She's mildly infatuated with a guy who she's never met. Basically, she just wants to do him. LOVE THIS SONG. | |
| Garbage – Never Be Free Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I've always thought this song to be telling a story of an unhappy relationship from the perspective of the person who isn't necessarily unhappy. To me, it sounds like Shirley is saying she's in this relationship and though she's arguably happy, she knows that whoever she is with is not...but she always knows that her partner can never leave her. Even if the partner WERE to leave her, they'd never be happy. Sounds like she is definitely the instigator of most of the problems, knows it, and doesn't care. Basically she's acknowledging that she's got someone wrapped around her finger. AWESOME B-Side. Can't believe it didn't make it to BLM. |
|
| Pink – Mean Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This is a great song off Pink's new album, "Funhouse". The meaning is pretty obvious. It's about being with someone for a long time and the spark fading away leaving you to realize that the relationship probably isn't going to survive. |

| Garbage – Tell Me Where It Hurts Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Awesome new single. I don't think it will do well with radio/TV play, but it's amazing all the same. Garbage has still got it, and judging by the video for this song, Shirley doesn't seem to age. She looks like she did in the Version 2.0 days! Anyway, to me, the song sounds like it's about a lovers friends/family not accepting her into their lives, and it seems to hurt the lover, but the person singing doesn't seem to really care because they love this person enough to make up for it. |
|
| Garbage – Boys Wanna Fight Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
The song is definately about politics, and the current war in particular. The "boys" are those who are all for it. The "girls" are those who just want to enjoy life without all the chaos. I don't think it's suggesting that all men want war and all women oppose it. I just think its a metaphor. Great song. |

| No Doubt – Running Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I've noticed everyone claims this to be a "sad song". It's really not. It's a very sweet, hopeful love song. I think the video that went with it had little to do with the songs meaning. It's about a couple who have been together for a long time and have been through a lot together. The person singing is simply saying how s/he hopes for the best (do you think we'll make it?), but is confident all the same (keep holding my hand). She is confident that no matter what happens, if they just stick together it will be okay (don't let me fall out of love/help me up, lets keep on running). One of my favorite No Doubt songs. |

| Regina Spektor – Fidelity Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song is totally positive and happy! In the beginning, she's talking about how shes never really been in love, and always been afraid to even let anyone in. She's spent so much time convincing herself that shes better off alone because she's seen too many other people get hurt; she doesn't feel like its worth the risk. While this is happening, she's got a guy who might be interested (and, unknowingly to her, he actually is very interested). She wants him to call, but at the same time, she's afraid he will. Hell, she's even afraid to pick up the phone and call HIM to avoid sounding desperate (watch the video, you'll get it). Then comes the second verse. So some time goes by. They've taken the step forward and fallen in love. She's let her guard down and has no regrets. She's totally happy. Now, she's just referring to her old self, before falling in love. When she talks about her friends saying "its going to go get better", she's referring to what they said back when she was stil waiting on his phonecall before they ever fell in love. Then, in the end, she repeats what she said in the beginning, almost mocking her own words. And in the video, she pulls off her necklace (which is in reference to her heart), and drops it to the ground and lets it smash into pieces and dozens of colors go eveywhere. She's not saying "my heart is broken", she's saying, "My heart is open to you, now, and its worth it because youv'e brought color into my life". (the entire video is all black and white themed until the necklace breaks. In closing, its a happy ending...for now. She's basially ultimately decided to stop being a coward and just go with the flow: Live and learn, and hell, maybe she'll come out lucky. If not, there's a lesson learned. Awesome song. One of the most beautiful i've heard in a LONG time, and its MEANINGFUL! |

| Gwen Stefani – 4 in the Morning Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Beautiful song!!! It almost sounds sad, but it's actually a happy song. She's so in love and she's hoping and praying that the person she loves so much will never change from the person she fell in love with. It's basically saying, "Hey, I love where we are and I love you, but if you ever start having doubts, tell me ASAP so we can work it out - TOGETHER. It's a great song for couples who hit the one year mark. | |
| Garbage – Til The Day I Die Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I hear a lot of people say, "Beautiful Garbage sounds NOTHING like their old stuff!" Okay, have you people even HEARD all of their albums? They are all different in their own way, and thats why Garbage is so fantastic. There's something for everyone. Anyway, this song is great. The entire album sounds best, like Bleed Like Me, LOUD AS HELL!!! |
|
| The Chicks – Not Ready To Make Nice Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Beautiful song. All they ever did was say outloud what half of the United States was too afraid to say. The ignorant, immature folks who call themselves "patriotic" seem to be forgetting one of the main principles our country was built on: FREEDOM. Read the constitution, and guess what you'll fine? That applies to speech, too. |

| Garbage – Soldier Through This Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I'm surprised there arent really any comments on this amazing Garbage song. The first half of the song, I think, is while a destroyed relationship is still trying to go on (but obviously isn't working). The second half is prior to the relationship. Basically, the person telling the story is talking about how the tables completely turned on the other, and it makes the other person feel like the person singing changed for the worse, when in fact they changed for the better and it just makes the other person look bad. | |
| Garbage – Trip My Wire Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This is a great song by Garbage that isn't recognized like it should be. I agree with the above post that it's about someone who has had bad experiences. However, I think it's more specific. I think she's been cheated on at least once before, and has just learned she's been cheated on again - or suspects it - or is simply warning her new lover what kind of person she is and what kind of person she is capable of being if you piss her off. I love it! | |
| Pink – God Is A DJ Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Antichrist? Oh please...This song is anything but evil. It's a fun, energetic, inspiring song. With these lyrics, Pink is simply encouraging you to live your life with no regrets and never forget to have fun. It's that simple. Lighten up. | |
| Madonna – American Pie (Don McLean cover) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Wow. Last time I checked this website was called "Song Meanings", not "Song Critiques". Keep your opinions to yourself. | |
| Garbage – Run Baby Run Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think this song's meaning is pretty obvious: When it gets too tough, just take what you learned - don't let it get you down - and just run away. It's kind of a cowardly way of life, but some people (like myself) just can't handle anymore pain, so they run. "Find out who you are before you are before you regret it because life is so short; there's no time to waste it" is basically Shirley's way of justifying the "running". She's basically saying, "Why sit around and put up with more pain when you could be moving on to find what you're looking for?". Beautiful song. | |
| Garbage – Bleed Like Me Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song basically says don't criticize someone when you can't even comprehend the pain they endure, because if you walked a day in their shoes, you would understand. It's a beautiful song. | |
| Kelly Clarkson – Because of You Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think this song wasn't really written with a specific incident in mind. I think it was meant to be interpreted in many different ways. I could see it very well being about a guy, but I could also see it being about a family member (like a parent). My personal interpretation is that it's about her parent(s). I take this song to heart because it reminds me of my mother who is now dying from alcoholism. | |
| Camp – Here's Where I Stand Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The lyrics are pretty self explanitory, but if you've seen the movie "Camp" (which is an amazing independent film), you understand that the song has a special meaning to each character in the film. I think that most importantly, judging by the theme of the film, the song is basicaly someone who is homosexual trying to help their parents understand and accept their lifestyle. | |
| Full Blown Rose – Somebody Help Me Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This is the theme song for the FOX show, "Tru Calling". This really is an amazing band. If you ever get the chance, listen to some of their other songs. They did an AMAZING cover of "in the air tonight", by the way. It's very rare to find though since the band has yet to release an album. | |
| Avril Lavigne – Basketcase (Green Day cover) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This is a cover of Greenday's "Basketcase" by Avril Lavigne. It's a nicely done cover, but I've only been able to find a live version of it on Limewire. | |
| Avril Lavigne – Get Over It Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Definately different from mainstream avril - but IS there a mainstream avril? hehe...that's why I love her. So diverse. This is one of my favorites. | |
| Shawn Colvin – Sunny Came Home Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I agree with bumcloud. This song defintately makes Sunny come off as a pyro at first, but you've got to look at it from a less literal perspective. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Landslide (Fleetwood Mac cover) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Here's my interpretation of this song... I took my love and took it down >>I tried to love but it didn’t work out. I climbed a mountain, I turned around >>I experienced something new, and left it with knowledge. And I saw my reflection in a snow covered hill >>I thought I was seeing who I really was. 'til a landslide brought it down >>But the experience taught me that I don’t even know myself yet. Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love? >>How do I know what love is? Can the child within my heart rise above? >>Can I find the “real me”? Can I sail through the changing ocean tides? >>Am I going to survive such a dramatic change in my life? Can I handle the seasons of my life? >>Will I be able to handle more of this later in life? Well, I've been afraid of changing cause I've Built my life around you >>I’m afraid to move on because I’m so used to you. Time makes you bolder >>But the experience made me stronger. Even children get older >>Everyone get’s wiser. And I'm getting older, too I'm getting older, too >>I’m getting wiser, too. I took my love and took it down >>I tried to love but it didn’t work out. I climbed a mountain, I turned around >>I experienced something new, and left it with knowledge. And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hill >>And if you think you still know me… The landslide brought it down The landslide brought it down >>You’re wrong. By the way, this is my favorite cover of this song. |
