| Calexico – Yours and Mine Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I've always imagined the first verse being spoken by a jockey to his horse, moments before the start of a race. I'm not sure how the second verse would tie into that, though. | |

| gee, does anyone know what a metaphor is? the speaker isn't literally on a fucking boat. | |
| Toad the Wet Sprocket – Reincarnation Song Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| The last stanza, in which the voice talks about "something so big" he can't understand, has nothing to do with his surprise at not being in Christian heaven. Rather, he's unable to let go of his own self-identity (his humanity is the "baggage") and become part of divine consciousness. It's basic, run-of-the-mill pop-Hinduism, which has been infused in Western culture and music ever since the Beatles went to India and kids started reading Salinger. | |

| I always thought it was "Our lord is so neurotic, he's a heart-broken giant" | |
| Madvillain – Meat Grinder Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think the second to last line is probably really "the old, tan Alesis." | |

I think, like most of Billy's songs, a lot of lyrics in this song aren't meant to be taken literally, but to simply convey a feeling. It might not be the most sophisticated songwriting style, but it certainly hits home emotionally. That being said, i think Conal's "translation" ain't too bad. I'd go one step further on the line "Sally's in the stirrups claiming her own destiny" and say that Sally's getting an abortion. Um, sorry if that was obvious. |

lol, wtf @ molkoPlus soma is a drug. Love, like a drug, only ends up letting you down after your off your high. I love this song. I had it in my head as i was standing outside on a girl's porch underneath the moon at one o'clock in the morning as she was crying and hugging and breaking up with me. Weird, huh? |

I don't think this song is necesarily about a 'certain' person. The prevailing feel of the entire ep seems to be a kind of existential hopelessness, especially all the references to dirt, graves, being underground, etc. As if life means nothing because one day you're going to die. I think the idea is, despite all the good things in life, shit always happens, and that in the end, the bad shit outweighs the good. It's pretty hopeless, esp. the line "help's not short when you're diggin' your grave." My favorite line in the song is: "Slight of hand won't separate your body from the dirt you're standing on." It's like, life is meaningless, the life that is in your body doesn't mean anything, because your just made of all that same shit down in the dirt, and when you die, that's all your life is gonna be reduced down to: the dirt in the ground. |

| Pink Floyd – Welcome to the Machine Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Anyone ever read "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" by Ken Kesey...? I think the whole music business thing is a little redundant. We all know and are horribly adamant about the fact that all major labels are evil hate machines, etc. And we all know that almost every talanted "big" band has run into some sort of problem with their labels who want to exploit them, etc. I'm not saying that's not what the songs about, I'm just saying that there are a billion songs people love to attach this theme to, and maybe it's a bit to easy to just say that's what the song's about. Anyways, I got to go with the whole society thing. That society is the machine, and the character of this song is rebeling against the machine in his own private way. I'd really like to know what these lines mean though: " You've been in the pipeline, filling in time, provided with toys and 'Scouting for Boys'. " Any idea's? |
